Found it, about £16,200 for a 114i ES 3 door manual 102 bhp.

Quite good value and a bargain compared to the crazy prices being asked for some Skodas now.

 

No you'd want the 116ED 1.6 diesel for economy .£20k 74mpg 99g/km.

 

As you wouldn't pay £17k for a vRS you wouldn't pay £20k for a 116ED, 15% discount is easy. And as Skoda are doing now BMW offer low finance on PCP deals and the residuals mean the monthly payments can be cheaper than more mainstream rivals.

 

Horses for courses, the cost of motoring over a time period is not just the sticker price new.

 

TRL were recently doing a 1.6 Turbo Petrol M Sport for £269 deposit and £269 a month. That or splash out £24k out of the bank? Many people who can afford new go pcp if the deal is right.

I havent got anything on finance, but i am aware People with real money do buy on pcp. Why would you buy a nice expensive car cash, when you can have that money invested somewhere else making money fir you, not losing it.

Unfortunately, i dont have silly amounts of money and prefer things to be 'mine'

We know there are good cars, but not many go on a BMW forum to say that Volvos are reliable,

Porsches are faster and the likes.

 

Anyone can buy or lease any car,

you just need to want to spend or own/drive those types of car, and be able to splash the cash.

Yup. So maybe thats why i caused a stir by being on the fabia section and saying the fastest model still isnt fast.

I dont know. But aslong as your happy with your car thats all that matters, and if you think its fast, enjoy it mate, its all yours :).

Yup. In my job i get to see all sorts of houses/ vehicles, and youd be surprised how many multi millionaires are happy driving a toyota aygo or the likes, these people have nothing to prove and couldnt care less. These are the people with proper money

Not a stir, you are on a wind up.

They are what they are, out 3 1/2 years, they are as fast as they are.

 

I wouldnt be surprised by what people drive, we all live and see.

I think we all know someone around with money and car collections, or no interest in what they drive.

A wind up? An honesty mission mate. I genuinely dont think theyre fast, and arent willing to pretend they are. That is all. If you wanna get upset about my point of view, im not too bothered, but it isnt what i set out to do

My old engine would get about 42-43mpg at a steady 70mph.

New engine with no consumption issues does the same... But the vRS is too much fun to get hung up on fuel economy, it is better than most cars offering similar performance.

A car of this size, class and value poking out 180hp and a top speed of 140mph isn't exactly a slow car. Mine never fails to impress me especially now all is sorted Oil wise.

EDIT: It seems that there are some cracking PCP deals to be had now especially with the big names like BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc. At the other end of the scale our roads seem saturated with the awful 'Limited Edition' Corsa (0% finance I'm guessing) with the black alloys, often being driven in my experience by complete muppets - some worse than the notorious Beamer drivers IMO.

Did you swap from a cthe to a cave mate? Or both cave? (Just curious because of a previous engine swap post). Yeah its defo not a slow car :).

And gonephising, ill point out you again then that it all stemmed from gaz saying he overtook a fiesta. From then on, im not sure if its just the way you type your posts, or its just your general attitude, but you do seem to come across extremely defensive and mardy. I said they werent fast, and youve just disagree'd massively since.

Like i say though. If you think its fast, thats good on you, enjoy it. But dont be upset when you meet something that is fast and you get left for dead, because its inevitable eventually

CAVE out and CAVE in, no noticeable difference in any way only improvement since using 99 RON petrol.

What i have done is point out that a 180ps car is what it is. & they weigh what they weigh.

If thats a Hot Hatch or a Warm hatch thats what they get classed as,

if you do not consider them as that, i get that.

 

Its not me that cares about speed, the figures are published and the cars do that as a minimum.

Yeah the vRS and 120d have similar power but the 120d beats it in any performance test really. Off the line the Beemer hits 0-60 in 7.1s which is quicker than the furby - quite astonishing when you think that traffic light grand-prix is not a Diesel forte at all. In the midrange the 120d mullers the vRS with its extra 100lb/ft. At higher speeds (say 80-120mph) he Beemer also romps away. The vRS is obviously feeling punchier at the top of its rev range and in that respect is much more fun to drive hard. I always cruise around in the Beemer surfing the huge reserves of torque but in the vRS I am much more likely to be hooning it.

You can floor the Beemer form a standstill and it just grips and goes thanks to the RWD and very wide rear tyres. Floor he furby from rest in any thing other than perfect conditions and it's often a mess of wheelspin and traction lights.

I'm loving the rear space and huge boot on the furby tho.

All in all they are quite a good 2-car garage combo so I'm quite happy/lucky to have them tbh.

Otaylor38, we're both bike fans and not too worried about a car's performance, others on here don't agree and seem to be of the ilk that you haven't got a vRS then you haven't got a proper car.

I bought my Monte because it looks good, drives fine, is quite nippy around town, cheap as chips to run and gets economy not far off my previous diesel Pug and is £188 a year to insure.

So back to the thread name, I'm getting mid 40's. To 50 mpg on the motorway and that's all that should matter mate.

Cant beat it for price i dont think. I was most surprised when my 2013 HTP 70 SE was £680 a year fully comp, and im only 21 with no years no claims (first time on my own car policy). Cant beat em for that :).

Id of loved the tsi mate. Drives nice and seems to get the same economy as my htp, even though theres mpre power/torque. Seems soo much more responsive to, im not sure why aha.

I, like yourself, have to keep reminding myself that the cars for cheap economy and nice sensible driving, and the bikes where the fun is. I would like to meet a vrs at the lights though, not gonna lie haha.

Oh, and my oil per mile is pretty much none, like yours i expect ;) haha

Do you need to change the oil in a vrs or do you not bother because its constantly getting new oil anyway?

They're like the old Triumphs and BSAs, they had total loss oil sumps as well.

Id like to think this would give much more realised view on the costs of running each motor.

Thats an easy enough one if you are interested in Oil & Fuel use on Motorways.

A vRS will be the same as other Petrol Fabias, no oil usage on motorways and in the 40 MPG's.

Road Tax £140 & many young drivers pay much less than you do on insurance for them.

Not really. Cos they are well proven to use loads.

Low 40's maybe, defo not high 40's.

My road tax is £105

And id like to hear who they insure with, if they are getting a vrs, with no year no claims(on a car) fully comp etc etc, at 21, and live in a relatively low risk area and paying less than £680 (outright fee, no installments). Then you would be educating me, for a change.

Please dont tell someone that drives them what MPG they get,

or how much oil they use from what you read.

You can get them doing the low 20's.

 

Mid 40's to into the 50's is easily done at motorway speeds.

& oil burners use oil, but seldom on long runs.   Non Oil burners do not drink oil.

 

Same speeds as you in post #1,  

car sitting at 2,400-2,500 rpm. on Supercharger or sitting on Turbo, totally economic in 7th. 

Double the available power to your car does not mean it needs to drink more fuel than yours.

 

Ask the young drivers that have had the cars who they insured with.

Or just do a quote on one and see what it shows on your circumstances.

Youve got an extremely good one them, from what the other vrs owners on here have put.

But they are well known for how they burn oil, and not exactly known as a 'good' engine reliability long term or oil consumption wise, as far as iv read on the tinternet.

Nah. Im not that bothered anyway. You know my views. I wouldnt touch one anyway. No doubt they can be fun, but i like peace of mind, and a twincharger defo wouldnt give me that.

Im happy nipping around in my htp, enjoying the smooth, comfy ride, with no worries. If i want fun, ill get on the bike, 0-60 in 3sec, and still get well over 50mpg, happy cruising at 100mph or so if needed, uses hardly any oil at all.

Anyway. Im actually bored of replying to my own thread now. Have fun driving your vrs, but dont dont think they every fabia owner wishes they had one, because i for one certainly do not. If i wanted one, id get one, but i actually think it would be a bad decision.

but the reading the 'Well known they use oil' thing you read is about the Faulty Engines being replaced.

Not the ones that most have that are not faulty.

I know the User Name of every member here thats had faulty Twinchargers,

its my specialist subject. LOL

I dont need to do searches to remember the cars or members.

I also know the ones that say they use no oil other than expected for the type of use they give their cars.

If it was a decent engine, you wouldnt be able to remember any members names. I also know that there arent any 1.4tsi engines with high mileage of any sorts.

And i bet you cant remember the members with a htp or 1.2 tsi that have had oil consumption issues or engine replacements.

They might not put out the same power, but they are proven to be better engines.

VAG cocked up quality control on the engines, we know that,

that is the point of all the Oil Threads.  but not all of them,

 

89,000 miles is the highest mileage Cupra i personally know of.

Who cares how long they last, they are cheap and fun.

 

As long as the owner has a warranty, and VAG meet their responsibilities, which they are now.

Manufacturing/Design Faults, on the Under 1400 cc Engine of the year for the last 4 years,

so they are doing the paying out.

 

Dude when you have a photographic memory you remember almost everything.
