Motorway cruising mpg?

Featured Replies

I only asked what the Fiesta Ecoboost was that he was peeing off while 4 up in one of the cars

he considers to have handling like a barge, was it one equal to his or the more powerful one.

I must admit it was to wind him up,

and it certainly did set him off on his vRS ranting for some reason!

  • Yep very true.   I hope everyone with a vRS enjoys it. But the examples I've driven have struggled off the line in anything other than bone dry, warm, smooth tarmac (Even our 1.2TSi DSG Does) and th

I'm not a fan of the interior either but SWMBO thinks it's the mutts!

The gear stick has a very small gate and the pedals seem close together.

On my CAVE engine I could reguarly get 45mpg on a run but after I had the CTHE engine fitted I could barely get 38mpg on the same run.

  • Author

Am i right thinking the CTHE is the newer modified one and the CAVE is older?

correct.

Oh. I dont know the ins and outs of the differences between the two, but im assuming your saving money on oil, so that might csncel out the costs ;) haha

I went one further and just got an oil burner ;)

1) 45mpg generally, if and when I can be arsed to hypermile (CAVE) - have done better in flatter parts of the country than Yorkshire's stretch of the M62

2) Pseudo, not Psuedo

3) The vRS is basically a formula one car (hello, flappy paddles), anyone who doesn't know that yet must have been living under a Fiesta Ecoboost for the last few months.

4) "don't need to have pseudo 180bhp hatches to show everyone that I need to compensate for a lack of man muscle."
This made me A ) Happy - you got Pseudo right

and B ) Giggle at the thought that anyone ever bought a Skoda Fabia, regardless of model to show off and compensate for a lack in the trouser department :giggle:

"Can't we all just get along"

We had a Female Member that must have bought her vRS just because she wanted one,

and when she rejected it and got a Monte, that was because she wanted to.

Probably content in the trouser front with what she had.

I get a chuckle at the thought of anyone thinking  & especially Fabia owners thinking,

that other owners have a Fabia vRS because they think people will be impressed that they have a Skoda Fabia.

Most people have no idea what it is other than its an fugly Skoda mostly driven by old people.

I do think alot of people are realising how good skoda's are now.

I thought id get a few mates trying to take the pee, but all but one have just said how nice is it. And the one that doesnt like it drives a 1996 civic vtec, so that says alot haha.

Got to say OT38 that's amazing mpg and certainly means the 1.2 HTP 70 has been dramatically improved.

My 2007 1.2 HTP 70 at 70mph was nearer 35mpg. It was a cracking little car but as soon as it got above 65mph the mpg took a hammering. It was obvious the little 3 pot engine was working it's nuts off .

My current 1.2 Tsi 105 is a totally different story. I don't even bother to check it these days as it's so long between fill ups I always have a smile on my face.

Call me Oli if its easier mate :). Frankly call me anything you want actually haha.

Hmm i know what you mean. I drove the older version of the engine in a polo for a few years, its revving a little harder and just seems out of its comfort zone at anything above 70mph doesnt it.

The new version though is actually quite enjoyable on the motorway. Takes everything in its stride, i was most impressed.

Iv driven the TSI 105, its brilliant isnt it. :).

I have a motorway run to work early in the morning and will set cruise at 75mph.

For Fabia's our current 1.2TSi DSG will do close to 50mpg depending on weather conditions. Our previous 2008 1.2HTP 70hp would do 50mpg at 60mph but by 75mph you were down in the low 40's and 80mph would struggle to get 40mpg.

As for our other cars for comparison my Passat 2.0TDi DSG will do close to 60mpg with cruise at 75mph, Our 1.6 Turbo Petrol 1 Series BMW will do 50mpg at 75mph the 8 speed box helps at higher speed.

The Passat is the best of the bunch for higher speed work, it's a long saloon with low drag and a bigger diesel, even pushing to 85mph+ gets 45+mpg.

Cheers

Oli's not bad...you'll have been called worse :giggle:  Nice to meet you!!

Yes the Tsi 105 is everything I need now I'm long in the tooth ( that's just the one tooth I have left but it's a long one  )

It is good on economy, very comfortable being the Elegance and quite nippy and on top of everything it's my third  Skoda and I'm happy with the brand  .

I got all confused then, i think that quote went abit wrong jaha.

To be honest mate, im only 21 and out of all the fabia models, the elegance with the 1.2tsi 105 is the best of the bunch i think!

And logiclee. What years your passat? Dads had 2 of the 2.0tdi's, one before, and one after they went commonrail in 2010. Theyre brilliant i think.

He had a 2010 golf sportline 2.0tdi with dsg. Reckons he was getting 50mpg odd when cruising at 85mph.

Passat is a 2010 2.0TDi DSG, bought it new July 2010 for £24k, done 50k miles in it now. Always swap my cars after 1 to 2 years and had the Passat nearly 4, I think that says it all, just use it for commuting now though. TopGear mag says Dull but one of the most crushingly capable cars on sale. I pretty much agree with that.

Get in it in the morning, set the climate, switch on the heated seats, turn up the sounds, set the cruise control, sit back and relax and arrive stress free with nearly 60mpg. Handles well, refined, quiet, enough performance, nothing stands out just a great alrounder. I'd certainly have another.

We do tend to use the BMW for drives out and weekend trips though. (Unless we have adults in the back)

Cheers

58mph average over 6000 motorway miles in a 1.6tdi fabia. My old VRS fabia could nudge 50mpg on a run but the average over all journeys was far lower. The fact it was a hoot to drive May have had a bearing on that though :)

...and slightly surprised some folk don't think the VRS is fast. It keeps up with a C43 AMG (4.2 v8, I believe) from a standing start up to about 90mph. Not bad...

Yeah that about sums them up mate. Brilliant all rounders

Only think dad would have changed about his was the wheels. He had the SE and found it could wallow on the motorway sometimes.

Thats why he went for the sportline golf next. Low profile tyres and sports suspension. Handles well, common rail 2.0tdi ia much more refined and quicker, didnt use any oil (previous 2.0 tdi used loads) had every possible extra on it. Was a lovely car.

Still wishes he hadnt got rid of it now

Yep, the SE had 16" wheels and 215/55 rubber, I run those as a winter size and they are a bit vague and wollowy.

Mines a Common Rail Highline so for 8months a year wears 17" Alloys with 235/45 Goodyear F1 Assy 2's, feels a lot more planted but does tramline a bit more.

Not needed to add any oil in 50k miles.

Sounds like youve got a good one there mate :). Brilliant for long distances and carrying things arent they.

He downsized to the golf because he started working in wales, and found the passat a little wide for darting around backlanes etc. otherwise, he'd of defo had another.

The highline is the top spec one isnt it. Nice one :).

got  a GLII 1.2TDi steady motorway on a long run I have seen low 90's mpg @ steady 56-60mph

at steady 65-70 mid to high 70's mpg

but it has to be a long run, used to see high 70's on 25 mile run home from work which was all m/way and dual carriageway

not the highest performance engine, but that's not what I bought it for, which was economy and low running costs

Christ.

Thats alot of mpg.

I guess thats what the GL is for though. No thrills, just good economy, and it sounds like it does that very well!

Really?! Doesn't the C43 pack 306bhp and accelerate 0-60 in 5.7s ? It would be great if the little vRS could keep up but i doubt it myself. :-)
