Keeping Black Black

Featured Replies

Washed Mrs Pasty's car at the weekend and already 3 days and 120 ish miles later it's already now a dull grey colour.

I appreciated the time of year is not exactly helpful for keeps any car clean but black seems to be the worst.

Is there anything i can do to stop the dirt sticking ithe first place?

I know it needs a good polish and i've got a couple of different types of wax to apply once it's dry enough but is there anything else one can do?

Think this is one for someone else to cover as I have only dabbled with them in recent months but I think conventional thinking would be a sealant, they have better self cleaning properties.  Does the car have any protection on the paint wax or otherwise?

But in a post winter semi-dry salty environment, the look of a black car will suffer worse than most, this is hard to stop.

For that reason it might be healthier to obsess about whether a good job has been done underneath the dirt and when you wash it does it revive to a nice glossy shiny black finish.

that's my two penneth.

G-techniq c1 or exo would be my choice if I wanted the car to look cleaner for longer, also makes washing the car a lot easier

Gtechniq for me too, but C1 and EXO need prep and curing time. Thats where C2v3 somes in. Wash and dry the car apply two squirts of C2v3 per panel and wipe in then buff. Job done.

If its more an instant fix and you don't have the time or patience try CarPro Hydro2 or Gyeon Wetcoat, both are simply spray haphazardly onto a wet car and pressure wash(has to be under pressure) the car, you can either dry it afterwards or take it for a spin for two minutes and lasts up to three months. CarPro Hydro2 needs to be made up to strength by taking 30ml of product and diluting it 3:1 with filtered/distilled water but the Gyeon Wetcoat is a spray straight out the bottle product.

Since I started using Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer Spray Sealant, I have found that dirt just falls off the car

So this may be an option for you too

I think the dullness might simply me the top few microns of lacquer just being a bit lack lustre.  I believe one good cut, and a use of a decent coating will help keep it looking proper black for longer.     This is what I am aiming to do to Pete's (skud vRS) car this weekend before Ultimate Dubs.
