  • So many Young Gits in Sensible and reliable cars on here. Some getting their thrills on 2 wheels.   They seem to forget the Oldies have been there got the T-Shirt and survived it, and now get cheap

  • As I am now, so shall you be one day. Will you think the same then? Relegated forever to a sporadic slowbus service bus service.I think not

  • I'd rather see an oap in one than a 19yr old with a lead foot and visions they're the next urban F1 champion

There was no mention of Kebabs or knives on here before post #62 that i read,

and i was in at the Lock,

but i did run off at the mouth, so as Tom says, 'Not unusual'.

I remain confused and in the dark.

A state I spend a lot of time in.

Oddly has begun to feel slightly reassuring.

Sorry that is a reference to Sir Tom Jones, not Teflon Tom.

Showing my age there!

George is that you (SK4GW?)

Why cant I send you a PM?

Whats with the name change?

And yes, you are old! But so is Sir Tom and he is damn cool! Huh, Hah, "I've got a lot of girls on my team" - Don't ask! SWMBO makes me watch The Voice on saturdays, she gets that and I have Top Gear Time reserved on Sundays.

Trying to switch PM on but not finding where to.

I had a Virus on my PC and had to wipe & go to Factory Setting, Passwords used, and Bank Account hit

So changed provider and better security, just i seem not able to get past it.,

Phising Emails sent to contacts etc. & i had to change stuff, everything basically,

so on a Google Chromebook and it is a PITA, keeps going to US keyboard and i lose @. (just found it),

Where are these young people when you need them?

I've suspected for some time, and now I have the proof.....this forum is infested with old gits  :dull:  :dull: ...the site should be renamed OAPSKODA.NET  :giggle:

I've already accepted that the Fabia is an old mans car. I'm an old man. Ergo, I drive a Fabia.

What's your excuse? :giggle:

2 old men now in debate or banter over old men in Fabias.

Thankfully i am just a middle aged git.

IBT2L

Just in case

George good luck with the tech, turn it on and...........,.

I see agism is still socially acceptable. One day it might be as unacceptable as racism is today, though probabley not in my lifetime.

Age discrimination is already unlawful in the workplace but today’s ban will give new protection to ensure older and younger people get fair treatment in the provision of goods, facilities and services.

“This sort of prejudice has no place in modern society and it is right that we introduce legislation that will protect people from unfair treatment,” said Minister for Women and Equalities Helen Grant.

“Not only are we providing protection against age discrimination, but we have been careful to ensure that the law strikes the right balance between protecting older people and allowing business to make sensible decisions.”

If ministers think that age discrimination has been wiped out they are sadly mistaken.

I sit on many interview panels and although the official reason a person is rejected is never due to age the most common question when discussing a candidate is still "how old are they?"

I suppose there are different forms of age discrimination. The one you refer to, in the work place etc is indeed serious but the banter on here can be taken light heartedly and can indeed, as some of the posts show, be quite funny,

After all, if any youngster wants to have a pop at us oldies we can smile in the knowledge that they are only a very few short years away from being on the receiving end themselves. :giggle:

I'd like to argue that those of us in our mid-life 30's - 40's have it hardest.  Way worse than the Twyhard Tweens or Fusty smelling pipe and slippers brigade.

We neither have the hip the hop nor the backwards baseball caps but we have to pay for our own fuel in winter.  We don't care much for twitter yet can't remember 8-track tapes.

As for whether we look right in vRS, who knows, almost all would say no!  The Maxi Cosi in the back of my bright green hot hatch is a confusing identity message.

Now by my opening line, I will have confused some already who will be worried that life stops at 60, but I struggled to come up with an all encompassing term for 30-40's so mid-life it is.  I personally intend to live on to a ripe old age, become a danger on the highways in a highly modified mobility scooter with an H&R ARB an 18's on it (or perhaps just a vintage Mk2 Fabia vRS).

I think the "Fusty smelling pipe and slipper brigade" is a bit below the belt

Blue Badge means i get nearest to the McD when in a hurry to get to the toilet,

without needing to use the Grill Parking.

Well being 30 im not sure if I quite fit into the 'yoof of today' or the 'middle age' category or perhaps something else?............ but whatever, imo its horses for courses when it comes to choosing cars and what people decide to drive. Yes I see a lot of people who are probably aged 50-70 driving skodas locally to me but I think its mostly because they are reliable, comfortable and not hugely expensive cars. So whats wrong with that?

On a different note though, I actually think everyone with a licence should do a 5 or 10 yearly driving licence test re-sit. Its very easy to get into bad habits etc and become lazy drivers and I think this would help combat that and also ensure those who are older, are still safe to drive. I was glad when my nan gave up driving as I was not convinced her reactions were good enough and she was neither confident nor happy being in control of a car. Absolutely nothing to do with her age, but she could have become a danger to herself and others through hesitation, not seeing things in time etc

I am out with my mum now and she was driving.89 next week. Scary thing is. She drives and parks better than me.

Age shouldn,t be the final arbiter. It's reaction time, co-ordination & eyesight that should be the important parameters. As these can vary tremendously, irresptive of age it is becoming more important that a simple foolproof method of evaluation is implemented. Also there is no method in use for determining whether a driver is high on marijuana or cocaine, or one of the other ubiquitous designer drugs now available.

I know who I would trust - a fit 80 year old or an 18 year old high on some drug or other.

Answers on a postcard please ...

A fit 80 year old? I bet there's a web site for that sort of thing.

Cheers

Lee

The reason you find oap in a vrs is simple ! Most of them are blue badge brigade so they've had them for nowt

Following on from this, technology must exist to detect whether a driver is high on drugs? If not until such a time that a device that detects drugs & automatically immobilizes the car becomes available, then every driver should be accompanied by an airport trained dog that snatches your keys when drugs are sniffed. Is that a good idea or what?
