  • So many Young Gits in Sensible and reliable cars on here. Some getting their thrills on 2 wheels.   They seem to forget the Oldies have been there got the T-Shirt and survived it, and now get cheap

  • As I am now, so shall you be one day. Will you think the same then? Relegated forever to a sporadic slowbus service bus service.I think not

  • I'd rather see an oap in one than a 19yr old with a lead foot and visions they're the next urban F1 champion

That's more like it...Keep em coming :giggle:  :giggle:

Retest at 60, you're having a laugh.

I have engineers in their 70's looking after safety critical equipment that I wouldn't let a snotty nosed 20 year old anywhere near.

Cheers

He is having a laugh..Yes :giggle:

OAPs owning vrs's means older immaculate cars are still available to buy longer

Where did you get my picture from? I don't remember it being posted anywhere. But that could be the Alzeimer getting worse.......Now where did I park my vRS?

Bless him my old grandad, he's 83 years old now, but his driving has gotten pretty bad in recent years, I definitely think a retest is a good idea.

West Yorkshire Police have invested in a new high performance traffic division to combat the new trend of OAP racers. In a statement the Chief of Police for the county said "these OAP Racers are not to be taken lightly they have a lot of free time, disposable income and a complete disregard for authority, if we are to keep this menace under control we need highly trained police drivers in vehicles that can match the souped up performance motors these OAP's prefer"

Thought they where Mcbusted n fly

......Now where did I park my vRS?

Probably in a disabled parking bay at your local Tesco when you popped in for a 4 pack and the latest edition of Nuts.

Fabias and older persons or those with a bad back or nervous disposition should be restricted to main roads, venture onto country roads today at your peril. Unless your near an MP's residence where the roads have been re-paved.

Wow you certainly know how to wind me up.

I passed my motorcycle test first time in 1962 (in snow) and car test first time in 1965.

I started my motoring by joining a motor club, competing in driving tests (setting fastest times around a confined circuit defined by cones, for those who don't know).

I also did track days at Brands in my tuned 105e Anglia in the days when you shared the track with GT's and F3 cars.

I competed in day and night rallies too.

I learned how to control a car without endangering road users.

I have now been driving for 49 years; never stopped by the police, never had an accident and I drive fast, am not an angel, but a very observant driver.

My rules are;

Stick rigidly to urban speed limits.

Always leave good space from the vehicle ahead.

Never be the only car exceeding the speed limit in the fast lane of the motorway.

Drive at a speed that I am comfortable with on derestricted rural roads in any conditions.

Never overtake unless it's safe to do so.

I am 67 years old and love driving.

I think that's one failing with today's new drivers Tony, the limits of modern cars are that high and the safety systems are that good that when they do reach the limits and get out of shape it usually results in an accident.

Driving 70's light RWD cars with 145 section tyres and no driving aids certainly tought you car control and understeer and oversteer would happen everytime it rained if you weren't careful. You learn't car control and balance very early in your driving career.

And if you did go a bit too far the speeds were a lot lower and the roads were far less busy.

Can anyone smell the Hovis and coal fire?   :)

I also did my share of Rally'ing (Chevette) and later track days (Impreza) but motorsport costs and track insurance just made it too expensive for me to continue.

Driving with nowt tecken owt!

Insurance companies have all the stats re different driving ages.

I'm 65 and pay around £200 to insure the vRS and about the same for the 350z.

Since all the youngsters are so much better drivers I suppose they would pay a lot less than this?

Do you still get to be counted as an old age pensioner at only 65 & male?

Those youngsters now in their 20's might never see another 50 years to reach the Pension age after 2065.

They better get some sporting driving experience in now before the EU has them limited to

1000cc engines and 99 bhp max in just a few years time.

(Thats on 4 wheels.)

 I missed this thread. Just been reading up..OAP's can't drive?? what a load of viagra that is :giggle:

Now think about it.

Yes the odd OAP drives the wrong way up a motorway occasionally. They also drive around at 20 mph occasionally, drive through shop windows when pressing the wrong pedal in their automatic cars ..occasionally. Some have even run over themselves in the drive when they forget to put on the handbrake

BUT

I wonder how all that compares to the number of boy racers who tare around town centres, who annoy all and sundry by having the music blaring and windows down. Who career through garden walls  or roll into fields because they took the corner too fast? Or hit a tree and killed themselves and their girlfriend they were trying to impress. Or made a wrong decision and careered head on into another vehicle wiping out themselves and some other poor unsuspecting family.

The list is endless but should we really be saying these kids should not be allowed to drive and ought to use public transport until such times as they become ( well like the old folk really) more mature and sensible.

I would go so far as to suggest that for every one of the old folk who do something silly on the road there must be 10 younger ones just as bad.

Now.. leave us old folks alone and start looking across a much broader spectrum   I haven't even mentioned the young 'celebs' putting on their make up    or the infernal mobile phones that we oldies don't have because we don't understand them :wall:

The moral of my little rant is..." Live and let Live..."

No sector of society can lay claim to being perfect. ;)  ;)
