Went to take my car on the track yesterday, but when I arrived, had almost total brake failure :(

Bit annoying, not sure what the problem is, got a feeling there could be air in the system somehwere - going to bleed it again and take for a test.

Did you bleed the ABS module to?

Scrap that. You will be going round the south side of the M25 won't you?

I think we are going up the night before and staying in the Travelodge on the M4 about 10-15 miles from the circuit.

Skoda Saint, You, me and Taylor.  If someone doesn't mind sharing we could squeeze another in.

I remembered not long after I said that and Steve messaged me too. I'm waiting for a definitive as meet from Rob to see if he's coming. Will pester him some more.

George, I bet some poo came out when that happened!!! Especially with your late braking!

I was testing the brakes before I went on the track, so en route, was following a mk2 golf into the track and nearly went into the back of it, was only doing about 15mph, pressed the pedal and nothing happened.

I had that in my old car. Was a bad master cylinder on that.

It's very strange, under normal light braking, it's great. No issues, sensetive pedal, and good stopping.

But if I press the pedal very hard, like an emergency stop, afterwards the pedal is completely gone. No braking force at all.

Hold the pedal on a hill and see if you start to roll. If the pedal feels firm then eventually drops its the master cylinder.

Gone as in to the floor, or rock hard?

Could be the brake servo vacuum pipe with a split in, feels fine at normal speeds, braking at speed is hard work such as motorway slip roads etc.

Just fitted:

2 new wishbones

New front console bushes

New poly rear console bushes

New bottom ball joints

New track rods

New track rod ends

Replacement OS drive shaft

And unfortunately fitted springs to the back of the car because the air bags have badly worn :(

Yet to drive it to see how it feels, looking forward to it, after its had alignment of course.

I had that before, split pipe, did make some hair raising incidents... until tracked it down.

I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks chaps

After doing some research about the vacuum pipe on here, it does seem that is the problem.

The pedal goes firm, but there is no braking force at all.

That'll be it. Do I win a prize?

What about one free lap as a passenger in the VRS estate (before the vacuum pipe gets done)?

Just an idea?

Your prize is me not crashing into the back of you if you ever happen to be stopping your car in front of mine hahaha!

Haha! Only once you've replaced the pipe! I believe it's a single piece that runs from the vac pump around the back of the block to the servo :)

replaced the pipe the other day, brand new one at £29.99

No difference :(

There is one very small vacuum pipe that attatches to the larger vacuum pipe, and the rubber is a little perished, so im going to see if changing this makes any difference.

Does anybody know if the vrs uses a different servo to the pd100?

:whew: Just had a scan read through this (took me long enough) what a car you have built though, glad you stuck to it because it is stunning and that engine tone is porn

Thank you for the kind words, makes all the work worthwhile.

Unfortunately it's in the worst condition it's ever been in, and I've not got enough money to rectify it so it's looking a little worse for wear at the moment, and runs like a bag of poop.

But hey ho!

:)

Funding is the worst part of a project, my car looks nice but in reality it to is a pile of ****, there's 2 panels they need a full respray and one needs a repair :( one can dream though.. one can dream

Still looks great George and sitting next to how it was goes to show how much work you have put into it. Very well done indeed!
