How to immobilise a modern car?

Featured Replies

How can you immobilise a modern car like the Fabia Monte?

Back in the day you could just take the distributor cap off and it was going nowhere.

I have managed to make a mess of the lower part of the bumper (high curb) on the Monte so I have guy coming to tidy it up.

The guy needs access to power and a space to put a tent up.

I was going to get this done at work but the company that runs the site as just dug up the space next to the office where I had planned him to setup.

So one of the people I work with lives around the corner said I could use her driveway.

I have never used the mobile repair chap before and don't really want to leave him with my car unlocked on someone else's driveway whilst I am around the corner in the office.

I am sure it will be fine but if anything did happen I am pretty sure the insurance company won't pay out.

Just get a key blade cut so you can gain axes but wont start it.

I think mine auto locks itself if left open?

So wouldn't the alarm go off if you used the non-electronic key?

Fuel pump fuse?

Disk lock?

They only auto lock if you don't open the door after unlocking the car, after that they stay unlocked.

If you've done your research properly and paid a professional to fix your car then it will still be there at the end of the day.

I am sure it will but with my luck at the moment I am paranoid.

I know that the guy has been trading for a number of years as I got a quote from him in 2011. So can't be too dodgy!

Without any recommendations how would you know if they were any good?

If he's coming to "tidy your car" then in this weather I would expect his van to be clean and presentable, him also. The way he approaches you should be a big clue. In this day and age you could google anything and find information, simply google his company and there should be some sort of reviews somewhere.

Since it's only round the corner you could get one of your work mates to block the driveway with their car?
