My 2012 Yeti 2xWD is parked on a fairly steep drive.

I start the car release the hand brake but the car

does not roll back until I feed in the clutch (I know, bad practice)

it is as if the pads are sticking to the discs, is this a known trait?

It sounds like you have hill hold control on your car.....

HHC holds the brakes on for about 3 seconds or so on steep hills, before releasing.

I've looked in the brochure I have (Feb 2013) it confirms Hill Hold control was standard with the Elegance at that time   

Only works if the brakes are applied first though. If you set off conventionally and release the handbrake as the clutch starts to bite it will drive away like any other car without the Hill Hold working

Hi gumdrop, the same thing happens with my Yeti after I wash it and at no other time. I suggest wetness causes the brakepads to hold on to the brake discs. How? I have not figured that part out yet. But now, after washing and parking on the flat, I no longer apply the handbrake. The next day I drive away and apply the handbrake as required with no locking of the pads on to the brake discs. My Yeti does not have hill control! Do realise that I am in Western Australia and we have not seen rain for three months, so moisture in the brake area only happens when I wash the Yeti or drive through water. When driving the brakes have the opportunity to dry off after driving through any water (if I could find any) long before the handbrake is applied again.

Unfortunately not, since I hate it.  My drive is quite steep, like yours, and I find it extremely inconvenient that the car won't simply roll gently back when I'm manoeuvring.  i also don't find it particularly helpful in normal driving: it's possible to 'set' the HHC much firmer than you really need it, which in turn takes rather more right foot then the slope actually demands to get the car going again.

 

I was taught to drive properly, avoiding lazy habits, and including basic techniques such as hill starts using the handbrake as well as advanced ones like indicating correctly at roundabouts, correct road positioning, lane discipline etc.  The HHC "feature" just gets in the way IMO.

Do you have the Handbook for your car, because I am sure there is a description of the Hillhold system in there?

It should be possible to disable it with VCDS.

The handbook I have is for the later models,

they don't seem to police the contents of their

s/h models very well :wonder:

The function is described in every edition of the owner's manual, and listed in the index.  In the pre-2013 editions it is called Uphill Start Assist, for some reason.  In the 2013 editions (pre-FL and FL) it is called Hill Hold Control.

If it is the HHC holding the car it will release in a couple of seconds so it's no big deal.

 

My drive is pretty steep and if I don't hit the brake pedal when starting up the car rolls back when the hand brake is released.

 

One problem I do have though is that the design of the back bumper has a 'lip' to allow the tailgate to clear it - this fill up with water when raining and, as through this winter that's a lot, I have an almost permanent pool of water trapped in the bumper top - thinking of drilling a drain hole.
