Octy Brake pedal

Featured Replies

Hi all,   I noticed something yesterday on my Octavia, With the engine running i pressed hard down on the brake pedal, Felt the usual resistance but keeping the pressure on the pedal it eventually goes slowly nearly to the floor, Is that normal :wonder:

Can't say I've ever felt mine behave like that, doesn't sound normal.

I'd say normal - its not something you notice in normal used but seen it after bleeding the brakes and checking. It feels like air in the system but isn't.

It will slowly go down if you put a lot of pressure on the pedal.

If it's sinking down quite quickly with little pressure on the pedal then you may have a problem.

Vacuum leak perhaps?

Thanks guys,  Fluid normal no leaks, if anyone else tries it please let me know what happens, Is it the same?

Same on my 06 1.9PD, another design characteristic that could have been better.

Sometimes referred to as diesel creep.

It defies logic, after all pedal movement=pressure loss somewhere in the system.

Rather than get excited about air in the system or a fluid leak or knacked master cylinder seal maybe it's a side effect of the ABS system-pressure relief perhaps?

I wouldn't say I have never noticed the pedal loosing pressure in normal use and we are sat on the brake quite a lot with it being a DSG.

The only time I notice the pedal going down is when I have pushed really hard on the pedal.

While sat on the brake the pressure remains constant and the pedals doesn't sink.

Yes that is normal. The system must recognize that you are parked and if applied pressure on brake pedal to max point, after a few seconds will "release " the pressure making the pedal go down as if bleeding the system

Thanks for the replies guys, So it's not just mine that does it   :whew:

My Octavia FL vRS CR does that and my last car (2005 Civic Type-S 2.0) also did the same.
