removal of lower half of the dipstick tube...

Featured Replies

How yo easily remove the lower half (metal tube) of the dipstick please?

I know it has splines but how well stuck in there is it gunna be? Lol

Advice appreciated thanks

Sure you don't mean the orange plastic part? That's in good n proper and prone to breaking when replacing.

I pulled my dipstick out the other day and the orange bit came off 2. Is it broke or does this happen lol?

they seem to break regularly enough, given the age of most mk1's tbh it should be expected that the plastic will have perished somewhat over the years. have a look down and see it snapped, you'll see the orange sticking out if it did, in which case, new tube...

i think he means the metal part, as i recall Lucky having a thread on removing the orange plastic in Jan / Early Feb.

and then an apparent idea about the tube in general, that vanished again?

is this an update.... i think Bowders1 was interested....

Yeah, I think it's age related, IMO the plastic part is heated/ cooled so many times in its life, it's bound to perish eventually.

Yep, seem to recall him having an answer even, but may be wrong.

never checked back to see what came of it, cant remember what thread it was on!!!

aye, i did a search after last posting too, and asked there with this thread link in it :giggle:

There is a reason I am enquiring on this blokes.. my plastic piece did indeed snap and I bought a new one but.....

This got me thinking and I am waiting for a prototype on the thought process and subsequent meetings with a machine shop I had when I changed it.

Should be a week or 2 and I will have no1 of many in my hands, and not just for the mk1 20vt... lots more :-D

Just wondered how easily thr metal piece is removed as I could well be in a position to offer whole one piece items including dipstick and handle in nice shiney stainless :-D

Abit hard to read it but the 1 piece bit sounds awsome. I will hold off buying the plastic bit.

this does seem rather promising :) pics when the prototype is ready?

I will post pics when I have no1 in my hand yes. Either it will be epic, in which case I will pay for and order a batch of 50, or it will need a tweek here and there...

But the design ect has been done based on oem parts so will be "plug and play, mount the same way, look great, and ofcourse NEVER break again"

Its just a waiting game a sec, im excited as no1 will be going on my car :-D

Lol

Nice. Hope it works and the effort n time pays off. Will be great.
