Octavia 2 Headunit upgrade

Featured Replies

Hey guys I'm new so please be gentle. Today I bought an 04 octy 1.6fsi. Love the car but hate the stereo. I only have the stream (not mp3 :( ) and no aux. I hate this as I love having the iphone plugged in for calls, sat nav and music.

My question? What functions will I lose if I replace the standard HU with an aftermarket one? I know it shows climate temp but that also shows on the dials is there anything else?

I think if I lose too many functions then I'll retrofit an aux cable if not then it goes in the bin for a nice shiny new one :)

Have a look for Skoda MFD3 (also known as RNS510).  It's the double DIN factory fit head unit, with Sat Nav.  Reasonably straightforward to fit.  Doesn't lose too many functions, and gives you the factory fit look, right colours etc.  Will need to change the piece of trim that goes around the existing head unit, but your local friendly Skoda dealer can sort you out there.

Plenty of info on here if you search for MFD3.  Can usually pick up MFD3 units online / off eBay for around £400.

£400? Slightly out of my price range I'm afraid. Spent most of my cash on the car itself. Was looking at something like this.

What are these like has anyone had success in fitting them?

Just note you will lose the cd changer if you fit the latter but it will work fine for an audio (only) signal from your chosen device.

Ok no worries, there's no changer in the boot anyway think someone stole it before I bought it as cable is there. I didn't know it was there to look for it lol. I managed to find one of my old fm transmitters so am using that atm as it does calls and music and will try and fit something a little later.

I am removing my Stream MP3 and CD changer at the weekend if you want the Aux and CD Changer options....im in Norwich though...

Does the stream mp3 have aux?

It does, it has a socket in the armrest, I imagine it could go anywhere if you dont have a blank or armrest, but I haven't got the code for it. From what the guys on here are saying, it won't work in another car :/ if you're ever Norwich way you can try it though?

Yeah I have an armrest on the jumbo box just no aux socket in there, only air con slide thing. I may just put either a connects 2 box in or change the head unit altogether.

Headunit change is easy, took about half hour to swap mine for my Pioneer single din and sort a switched live, and parts were £15 for the Connects2 conversion bits :)

Yeah I was going to fit a single din but I've just ordered this

Going to fit it and see what it's like as it may be a cheap fix. If not I'll replace the whole stereo.

For info, this is mine with the Connects2 single DIN parts, theres also a piggy nack in the fusebox for a switched live aswell. It's not a perfect match, but then my car isn't exactly immaculate :D

Well done. Just need something to fill the gap in the dash now, either a pocket or maybe slide the auto changer in there. I've just received a new centre vent console as I have 2 broken fins in mine and the chrome has come off the little trim on the flap cover so hopefully the aux connector will arrive tomorrow then I'll fit that, drill a small hole into that pocket above the heaters and place the aux cable in there so it's nice and tidy.

Will let you know how it works and maybe whore a few pics.

I have the pocket thing in there, left it in the kitchen when I took the pic :/

That adaptor should work, will be the whole of 10minutes to fit!

I need to find a gearknob now, the chromes peeling off that and feels horrible!

Yeah I need to replace my gear knob at some stage. The chrome is ok but the leather either side of it is worn and makes it look old. Just finished cleaning all the seats as I think the old man who owned it before me wet himself :P. They had horrible stains on them but now look like new.

Ok got round to fitting the changer aux lead today. Didn't take long. Drilled a hole into the top cubby box.

Then all tucked away.
