Ideal Wheels - First MkII

Featured Replies

That would be the tyres not the diameter of the wheels themselves.  Possibly even a wheel alignment issue or sawtoothing of the rears.

Wheel diameter doesn't produce noise

I had the wheels balanced and aligned when they were put on with two new front tyres...

Erm....NO.

Aha I apologise. I've fitted two previously, 1 to an A4 and 1 to a Zafira and both of them the seam had to go in the "12 o'clock" position.

What brand of tyres do you have fitted? its normally the tyres that generate the road noise, when you come to change them, after a little research and you should be able to get quieter ones.

Ive just changed the tyres on my 18`s and previously had toyo proxes 4 at £100 each, this time round went for khenda budget tyres at a shade over 250 for the lot and they are quieter, more comfortable on the road, and from what I can tell just as good in the bends etc... I dont push too hard these days but they certainly do the job... and still look good on the car... best of all they were cheap.

pay more does not guarantee you get more

I like the tree-wood trim on the dash panel.  Is that standard and/or can it be retro-fitted to a 2007 Octavia, please?

Sorry Stuarted - that's an eBay pic of the steering wheel cover, it's not my car.

The tyres I chose on the advice of the tyre merchant - Riken (Ryken/Raiken) by Michelin as being a lot better than standard budget. Obviously they are not to be recommended...

BTW I think k they are ET30's - could that be an issue?

Just because an alignment was done doesn't mean it was done properly.  There's an Ireland-based guy over at VWwc with alignment issues & it appears there isn't a decent alignment guy in Ireland if his woes are anything to go by.  Also, check your rears for saw-toothing.  New tyres should go on rear as well.

I don't see any saw toothing - and I don't want to just junk two tyres with 5mm tread left...

E30's will be fine.

I run et25 8.5x18s

saw toothing would be on the edges, not the middle.  They just look like noisy tyres (big tread blocks).

You wouldn't be throwing out your tyres.  Not sure how you got that impression.  When front tyres wear out put the backs on the front & the new tyres on the rear.

Because having already put 2 new tyres on the front, after you said nobody in Ireland could align wheels you then said that "new tyres should go on the rear as well"... And if new tyres have to go on the rear 'as well', it's hard to fathom where old tyres go...

Fair enough.  I should have written it better.

When purchasing 2 tyres only, they should be fitted to the rear & the remaining 2 tyres moved to the front.
