Featured Replies

Well this brought on my first ever DNF on a 12 car rally!!!! now what to do, I was toying with the idea of swapping it out for a 1300 gear box anyway for the final drive, I was thinking of buying a whole car from ebay for the gear box then Id have a few spare parts such as doors subframe suspension parts but does anybody need an engine or any other parts? or I buy a 1600 then iv got a spare engine to tune ( also on the to do list) then I can tune and drop in when done, ooooooh what to do?!?!?!?!

Does anybody have a 1300 gear box for sale?

I saw ths topic the other day and I was trying to work out what it is you've doge to the gearbox? Has the casting with the mounting broken?

Yup that's exactly what's happened. Has anyone else ever suffered with this do you know, was it a one off me being an animal or is it bit of a weak point? Im going to look at bracing it when I look at repairing this box (to keep as a spare and strengthen the new, I'd like to replace with a 1300 box am I right in thinking there a 4.1 final drive compared to the 3.something on the 1600?

I have seen a few break like that, usually a poor casting, it is a 15 min fix tho as the mount is on the gearbox end cover so just bolts on. If you know a good welder that does alloy they may be able to weld it up stronger but every welder I.tried said it is poor alloy and it wouldn't weld very well

Oh I prob have q few 1.3 boxes here if you do want one, makes quite a difference

Yeah welding cast is hard enough let alone when its ally and then ****e metal as well just adds to the hassle. I'd be very interested in a gear box from you, I'v just emailed a guy about a complete car that's going fairly cheap then Id have "a few" spare bits as well, but I may very well be in touch, thank you.

Another little question guys, the 1.3 box will that bold on exactly the same no mods needed? standard 1.6 clutch and away you go?

Yes the bell housing is the same so it will bolt straight on, if I recall you need to take out one of the studs and use a bolt instead, because on the 1.6 the gearbox bolts to a cast iron adaptor plate which is in turn bolted to the engine block,

I may be confusing that with the diesel box with the stud thing, I can't remember now it's been ages since I swapped one.

Ok another quick thing do you guys know if there a flat or a pot type flywheel please?

You need the dished flywheel because of the 20mm thick adaptor plate bolted to the engine block, so hence the flywheel is much more heavy than a conventional type.

Right so it's a pot flywheel, I guess I leave that plate on the block and the 1.3 box'll bolt on to it no probs making sure I use all 1.6 clutch parts (plate and cover) ?

Yes, I think the 1.6 clutch is the same as a 1.3 mpi one anyway.

cool thank you dude.

  • 2 weeks later...

The clutchs are the same as I had a 1.3 and 1.6 one and they where the same....
