Intake tuning, sorta.

Featured Replies

Hi peeps!

Just wondering if someone would know how to tell the difference between the pd160 intake and the original pd130 intake for a fabia vrs? Just when I bought mine in November my cousin thought it was mapped for 170, but to test this I had a cheeky race withy mates golf that was 150bhp, and he pulled away from me, but it still pulls better than standard, anyone know why? And could this be because Might have a pd160 intake and not even know it?

Theres a big difference in the width of the pipe. . Where it comes off the slam pannel is wider and the pipe running to the air box is wider. .

When I fitted mine there is a slight better throttle response. . But not much else tbh. .

I wouldn't pay full price fror one from seat anyway.

I shall take a photo of mine and see if it's the same as yours? Could you show me a photo of yours please dude?

You won't notice any difference on a PD130 or a PD160 intake. If a golf 150 pulled away from you weather the golf has been mapped or not, your car has not been mapped although, it might be BLT engined which kicks out 'normally' a lot more than the acclaimed standard 130bhp. What Year is your car?

2006 ASZ engine I believe?

Standard cars are known to run up to 150bhp as standard.

2006 are normally BLT engined, I think the changeover was 2005, I maybe wrong thow. Either way if a golf 150 is pulling away from you sour car is standard :)

Never heard that the later BLT was more powerful (ish) did a quick search and found this - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/169987-asz-blt-mk1-fabia-vrs-engine-history/

will read up on the differences.

if a 150bhp golf pulled away yours is almost certainly not mapped. I would have thought the weigh difference would have meant the golf would have been about the same.

Mines mapped at 160/170 (not rolling roaded) and it will pull away from 150bhp golfs with a reasonable ease.

This is how you tell if it has one

And a pd160 intake makes about as much difference as a turbo badge to performance

No intake tuning for you, PD160 pipe does nothing at all apart from 'looking' beefier.

If you want to 'tune' your intake get your car properly mapped, most on here swear by fabokas remaps and they certainly represent excellent value for money.

Stop thinking like a petrolhead and accept that your oilburner requires tuning in a totally different way to conventional petrol pub wisdom. You just need a remap, no other supporting mods are required at all. Job done.

you've never heard BLT's are more powerful, how? It's a certain that BLT's produce more power than The 130 that's claimed and that's a fact

Sorry, I'm new to this! As this is the first diesel I've ever owned and just wanted to know more about my car before buying things that in this case, might be a waste of money! Sorry I'm not down with the diesel scene.

Don't worry, he talks like that to everyone :)

agreed, he's helpful and you'll get used to his bluntness  unless your planning in going over 200bhp their is no point in upgrading anything to do with the intake side of things

Also, not all maps are the same. If fact, you could have a really spiky map making 180bhp on one car and a nice smooth one making 170bhp on the other and the 170bhp could be quicker, it's about the size of the area under the curve not pub talk figures. Another point that gets missed with all these threads, even if you have a nice mapped Fabia with 170bhp, it'll still be so close between the cars it'd still be down to the driver.

Yeah I know that :) because my mate can't corner for crap, he's what everyone calls a squirt merchant, he has no idea's when it comes to a corner, I'm faster through the corners than him, :)

Gfwc, didn't your vrs get written off? Any chance the coilies you had are for sale?

What circuit do you race your mate on?

On a track day i assume?

AP's are £400ish I think, decent value for reasonable kit
