Scirocco owner needs advice on shark performance

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I like to introduce my self first, I own a vw scirocco and joined this group as I need some honest advice as the scirocco owners club has very limited knowledge on this subject and shark reviews are mixed...

I hope you guys don't mind but from the posts I've read you seem a friendly bunch :-)

I'm planning to get a stage 1 remap on my 2.0tsi DSG and initially booked it at a revo dealer, upon researching I've found that the map can be very aggressive and peaky, which I don't think I would enjoy. So I've looked into other maps out there, from what if read the Shark map seems allot more progressive and suited to my driving style, so my question is, has anyone here had a shark performance stage 1 fitted to a 2.0tsi DSG?? If so what's the drivability like, what sort of figures do you get, is it a reliable and is it a well tested map??

Thanks in advance, your help will be highly appreciated

Shak

I've not had a map from them myself, but Shark get very positive reviews here. They are a very popular and well respected tuner on this site.

Hope this helps.

As stated above, shark are highly recommended on here. Quite a few people on here have used them.

Having had a remap from most of the bigger players in the VAG market place (inc 3 Revo maps on a 2 litre TFSi) Id find it very difficult to go anywhere other than Shark Performance now tbh. The biggest selling point for me is that the software is just better. Easier on the drivetrain and probably quicker in the real world. They are also fantastic for after sales, not something that can be said of all the other big tuners! :)

Shark are the best in the business according to just about everyone who's used them, their customer service and support can't be beaten.

Hi guys!! Thank you very much for the input, makes the decision easier :-)

I've got my car booked for Friday into GNJ Motorsport near blackburn who are a shark dealer. Will post up my thoughts after it's been done :-)

Thanks again

Shak

I've not seen any mixed reviews.

Everyone on here seems to rave about them.

Last time I tried them they never returned my call.

But other than that they sound very good.

Even got a mention in April's EVO

Based on recent experience, I can't even be positive about Revo's pre-sales service, never mind after-sales.

During their winter sale period I contacted them twice through their web site asking if any of my local dealers had the equipment to map my car. No response.

As I was passing, I popped in to local dealer to chat and it turns out they've had the kit for a while and are happy to do the work.

I asked him to see if Revo would honour their sale prices as that's when I contacted them, but no.

Result, one unhappy customer and one unhappy tuner.

I phoned them to discuss the mapping for my Yeti and they seemed more keen to spend time putting down the competition rather than telling me about their product. At the same time I was also talking to a Fabia VRS owner that had issues with the car once the REVO map was on there but was fine without it. He said the support he had received was zero and they said it was a problem with the car. Another tuners map - no issues whatsoever. :) Compare that to the times Ive heard amazing positive comments from customers of Shark when Ive been up there loitering in their reception area for awaiting jobs to be done and its very clear the ethos of the two companies appear to be very different.

Shame really as I was delighted with the Revo map on my 1.9TDi, and I particularly liked the way that the map for the CR110 is switchable between 140 & 180; I.e. both maps are there for the owner to select as and when.

Shark do have a good rep, but to achieve the same (unless I'm confused) would require the purchase of 2 maps, so about twice the price.

Shark can do two maps on their STS system for the OP's car and the second map would be charged at just £100 ie same cost as a stage 1->2 upgrade. :) Personally I cant see the point - you either want to run it standard or with the enhanced map - not a half way state but its nice to know they could accomodate the request (for a reasonable charge) if need be. :)

Just for a bit of balance, I have had both Shark & Revo maps, and I have been delighted with both the maps & service from my Revo agent :)

They couldn't have been more helpful or informative. The dealer I used have just been given the Audi Driver Gold Medal Award for 2014, so like most customer facing businesses it all depends on the person / people you deal with, not just the general brand :)

Just an update guys!

Finally got the scirocco remapped yesterday with the shark map and I'm extremely happy with it! I've had a few maps done on my previous cars but the shark map is totally different. The power delivery is extremely smooth like oem and the throttle response is linear which makes driving allot more comfortable. It pulls like a train all the way to the red line which just gives me a huge smile!

Thank you all for the advice! Really appreciate it.

Shak

Always nice to hear a post purchase update to bring it full circle. Glad you are happy :)

So what figures are you running?

So what your running?

The car wasn't put on a dyno so don't have any figures. I think I'll booking it in for a dyno run soon though :-)

Do Shark remove the ECU to do the remap or is it a simple plug in and remap?

  • Author

It's plug and play :-)
