Autoglym and Gap insurance

The warranty is with Autoglym not the dealer.

Let's just agree to disagree.

If detailing did have a degree it would be an art and not a science

Sparkly out.

Sleep tight all

So basically if the £20 of product they've sploshed on fades and you actually notice, they'll splosh it on again. :)

Beautifully said.  A clean car is a joy, however we get it.

You clearly don't want it and that's fine but please try not to rubbish and belittle those who chose to have it and are pleased with it.

Didn't mean to cause an argument! I have no doubt that the autoglym is a good product if applied properly, my only concern is you don't know who will be doing it or how rushed they will be.

The detailer I have been in touch with is Russell at www.reflectology.co.uk he has some really good feedback and has worked in the industry as a painter / detailer for a long time and works on cars that are insanely expensive in comparison to my Octavia.

He estimates he will spend 2 - 3 days detailing and protecting my car inside and out, and will be using a lot higher market products. Sure it costs more, but possibly worthwhile so my car starts off in the best possible condition which hopefully I can try and maintain. Been reading lots on www.detailingworld.co.uk there is a lot of OCD car cleaners on there!

It was meant as a "bit of fun" but obviously I used the wrong smiley face.  Or we are taking this too seriously.

I had my new car done at the weekend and it was actually around the same price the dealer wanted for Autoglym.

That's outside, inside and he even did the engine bay too. (although I didn't ask for the latter)

I posted the link of what was done to my car on the previous page of this thread.  If you want to have a look.

My experience is that you get what you pay for.

Playing Devils advocate for the Lifeshine - it is only as good as the person applying it.  If dealer "x" has good staff applying it, then all well and good.  If not, then not so good!  Trying to find the good ones might be a tricky job though apart from personal recommendation.

I've heard of the Lifeshine warranty coming good on the interior protection on here - even with ink spills and new seats being supplied as a result.

Yes, you can save big by buying it yourself and applying it yourself - the question is whether a) you feel confident in doing so and B) have the time to do so.  I'm no detailer but know there's a difference between a detailer and a valeter.  It seems some don't - even those claiming to be one or the other.. :bandit:

I think GAP insurance is already covered...and probably becomes more prevalent when you have a car loaded with extras as these aren't considered in "book" values.  Certainly aren't when it comes to trade in time.

Guys for anyone who read this and thought that they fancy giving the car a spruce up, or topping up their detailing kit.

There is a group buy on at the moment I have organised with Obsession Wax.

I just thought I would give everyone a chance to see this, with the Spy not working whilst the site is being worked on, people might not know it was there

I had my Volvo 345 into a dealers many years ago to remove some fallout that had stuck to the car from work. The " detailers" used wire wool on the glass to remove the fallout totally trashing the front and rear screens. Unbelievable!

Autoglym treatment is a total rip-off at the prices quoted by dealers. There is a huge mark up on it. If you can get for free go for it otherwise avoid. You could get your car professionally detailed for similar money. Same applies to GAP insurance with regards to huge profit margin, worthwhile to have but haggle hard or shop around as you don't have to buy this product from a dealer.

On the basis that it seems the body/interior protection and gap insurance is a dealer add-on, I'd assume it's therefore not going to fundamentally change the order placed with the factory to actually build the car - am I right? Keen to dump those two from my order if the inflated costs are as stated - however I'm wary of doing so since my car is now at Status 10 although no confirmed build week - and when I asked to add Canton sound to the order was told it'd mean retracting the order and restarting from scratch, hence losing my place and potentially extending the wait considerably...

Actually I'd be interested to learn the truth in both questions since I could imagine if I forego the commission attracting options, the dealer might get miffed a bit more and decide they can't honour the price match already agreed...

It doesn't change the factory order status at all - these two are purely dealer add ons - in fact my dealer had automatically included Lifeshine in my order and I had to tell him to delete it.

Dealer accidently sent me the profit margins made on extras they try to add on.

Lifeshine = cost to dealer £60. Retail price you pay £399

GAP = £98. Retail price you pay £339

Salesman gets 20% of profit made on each item.

Asked, and apparently to remove them now would mean rearranging finance which would now up the interest from 2.9 to 6.9...

Complete nonsense - they are conning you! Tell them to remove it as you did not ask for it to be included or tell them to stuff the order and go elsewhere.. You did not ask them to include it?! The two items are dealer add ons and nothing to do with Skoda so I do not see how it can affect the finance which is with Skoda, presumably.

If you read the post from freeth304 above you can see why the salesman told you that - he will lose his 20%!!

I wouldn't want anything to do with a dealer like that.

You're being deceived, no question.

I got charged 550 for my gap insurance... Promptly cancelled, and I'll be buying elsewhere for ~£100 from elsewhere, when the company bother refunding me.

does anyone who has had any paint protection applied use local car washes of any kind, ie £5 drive in/out or mechanical ARC etc ???

If you do the road traffic film removers applied to your car as part of the pre-wash actually removes the supaguard/autoglym protection as well so in effect you are paying for something that will get removed within a very short space of time !!

Anyone who uses a 'car wash' isn't going to care about their car so I doubt they'd have any sort of paint protection applied, if they did they're a fool.

You will probably find 95% of people that have a paint protection product on their car use normal everyday car washes! If only for convenience.

The mere fact that the dealerships sell these add on products at point of order to so many purchasers means the average person is using standard car washes.

Its only a slightly "ocd" bunch like, the likes of some of us that appreciate these products need looking after and that a bog standard car wash or dare I say one of the many hand car wash types are not good for your cars paint.

Just off out in the rain now, to hand wash my car ;)

Oh my vRS has "lifeshine" and it is great but more care by the dealerships non directly employed valeter would have helped :(
