Dash trimmings finish?

Featured Replies

Just curious if anyone has ever tried or done,

a recovering of the usual bit of dash trim - radio surround bits around vents and switches,

in a brushed metal finish or a convincing vinyl effect?

if so how did it turn out, any pics?

since getting a button for my handbrake, im thinking the rest of the place needs cheering up,

but dont want chrome / fake wood / carbon everywhere, as it wouldnt look right in an otherwise boggo diesel..

I was gonna try and get my dash done buy a water transfer place, and was gonna have it in a dark brush aluminium but haven't got round to it with work and my bungalow :( would live to see some examples tho

yeah, i was on fleabay earlier, seems to be a good few places selling the vinyl wrap,

but id like to what it looks like before i commit to trying it out...

yeah, only reason for not using carbon is my car is a single occupant commuter bus. and i (personally) think the carbon doesnt look right outside of a VRS or clone. where as the brushed aluminium might give a more modern, subtle, contemporary look.

I just want to see it on something before i make up my mind.. i know im going to make a balls of it on first go,

so will have to buy enough to do it probably 3 times... want to be sure before i spend the cash.

tempted to wrap some bits in reversed tin foil as a test!!!!

yep, along those lines, though i found one a bit darker, that looks more.. expensive, even though its cheaper.

I was also trying to find hydro dip versions, but not much joy, and more prep work, once i looked into it a bit more.

Only issue I can see is going to be reflections in the windows. We have had members in the past with factory painted silver vents on the Fabia who complained the reflections in the mirrors and windscreen partially obscured their view. If you go for a darker shade it shouldn't be a problem.

THats kinda what i hoping. Plus, i'll only doing the vent surrounds, radio surround, ash tray,

the little bits, no big sections, as it could end up looking like a steel box!

Might be better off with plasti dip as getting a near finish on the vents is difficult.

Why not give Maj a bell at Xtreme of Harrogate - he'll do them in either Avery or 3M....

well, the distance (involving a ferry crossing) might be an issue... id buy a lot of vinyl for the cost the travel :D

just google mapped it for kicks - about 400miles drive, plus the boat :giggle:

Lol - I meant post the parts! ;-)

I think it looks pretty good, better finish than i was expecting, and not as big a ball ache to apply as i thought :)

even without warming it up, it went over the switch blanks quite easily...

Looks good :)

Thanks Ric, just have to work the courage to really go for it now!!

Looks like my mate's Kia,wich is rubbish

thanks Iulian :)

Like the vinyl good shade of grey/steel so shouldn't glare to much. I would avoid doing the vent areas as unless you cut it dead perfect it will look poor. Just my opinion you may have mad vinyl skills bud.

not mad vinyl skills....its my first time on the roller coaster :D

when i order up and get the stuff ill be removing the bits to wrap around the corners and stuff, so that it looks as good as i can make it.

anything that gets under my skin will put left standard while i practice :)

I considered going the vents when I wrapped my centre console and radio surrounds but decided against it as my cutting isn't perfect. Best advice I can give is plenty of heat and even more patience.

Doing the vents might look overkill.. Just my opinion. Altho the colour you choose looks good

time will tell :) i'll do everything else first, and then do one vent, if doesnt look right or OTT, ill use the left overs to wrap my toothbrush handle :D
