MDI Slot in 2012 Octavia vRS?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new here so please go easy on me.

I've recently had my bluetooth activated on my amundsen+ and my microphone came today so I'll be installing it at the weekend.

I was wondering where abouts the MDI slot is in the car? I've had a look in the glove box but can't see anything? There is this little "pull up thingy" in the center console, was wondering if it's hidden down in there somewhere?

Would really appreciate your help.

Cheers,

Michael

Mdi is front right hand side of glovebox. Mine was factory fit and is a very useful bit of kit.

The pulley up bit is for the AC to cool your chocy bars in your jumbo box :-)

Ahh, I wondered what that was for! Good to know for long journeys ;) thanks!

I have a feeling mine wasn't factory fitted. I've seen a few guides on how to install the MDI interface on the other models of headunit but can't seem to find anything on the RNS315? Mine is a blackline by the way, no idea if that makes any difference?

Anyone know what parts I'd need?

Cheers,

Michael

My car was an odd spec SE+ gave me maxidot mdi, mfsw, leather handbrake and gear knob/ gaiter, amundsen and Bluetooth, climate control, privacy glass but no cruise!

There is no MDI on the Blackline, I retrofitted mine.

Cool, thanks all.

I've been reading that the MDI audio quality is a bit poor with some even saying that the bluetooth audio is better!

I'm tempted to just stick with an SD card if that's the case.

Anyone had a similar experience with the MDI?

Cheers,

Michael

i had mdi in the last car and also have it in this on, factory fitted both times.  personally i love it as you can just leave your ipod/ whatever in the glove box and control everything from the headunit, plus it keeps the ipod charged too.

not tried to stream music (why would i?) so i cant' compare sound quality.  i'm not against streaming wirelessly but i'd guess that would run the phone/ipod battery down pretty quick unless it was plugged in to charge, in which case you might as well have put it in via the mdi, no?

Agree with Rob_e.

Never noticed a lack of sound quality when listening to music through mdi.

MDI should be better audio wise, since the headunit reads the file digitally and decodes it internally in the stereo. If the sound quality is poor then its the source material. Bluetooth is a low'ish bitrate medium in comparision.

Thanks all.

I ended up ordering a 32gb SD card which holds most of my music. Very pleased with the method for now, I may invest in the future.

Fitted the microphone yesterday (without removing the glovebox), was very easy and works very very well! :)
