engine conversion

Featured Replies

Is it possible to convert a pd 130 to a pd 170 engine

Only askin this because me and my mate are having a challenge :)

Of course, anything is possible if you throw enough money and work at something.

Which pd 170? Got an engine code or anything?

Waste of time. With the right bits a pd130 is more tunable anyway :)

In what universe is a 1.9 8v going to be more powerful than an equally tuned up 2.0 16v? I not the smiley and hope the entire phrase was in jest.

@the OP, you can but try. Depends what you mean by "convert". Have a sniff around tdiclub forums for lots of discussion.

If you were going to swap the engine it'd be a odd choice for sure, doesn't gain you that much over a 130 to be worth doing imo

that's like saying a golf R32 is more tuneable than an Evo because the engine is bigger and has more valves thow, when clearly it's not. The 1.9 and 2.0 engines are both maxed after a remap and both produce about the same power so what's your theory behind that?

You will get some gains from a 2.0 16v, such as oil pump failure, closely followed by turbo failure.

With the right mods, a PD130 can be reliably taken to 280 bhp +

The amount you'd spend on installing a PD170, then cost of modding to chase the same power figures, you may as well keep the engine that was designed to be there in the first place.

i would consider a 1.8T swap, if not, then none. PD lumps are good, they put up with a mad amount of abuse and as soft scoop said, the cost of making a pd170 lump 280 compared to a pd130 would be more.

If you want to go fast buy a 90s Jap car imo, RX7, S14a etc for around 4K will see 0-60 in sub 5 seconds.

Always wanted an r32 lump in my vrs just for the noise and sh*ts n giggles lol

And the ploughing understeer, it's a terrible engine, if you think the PD is heavy, the R32 is a ship anchor!

The phrase used was "tuning potential". I don't see that as a simple remap and go. Look at what Darkside managed to do with their Jetta. There's also DevonMikeyBoy who tuned his A3 Quattro just a smidge.
