Why I hate car insurance

Featured Replies

I'm picking my Yeti up on Monday. The insurance on my vRS SE was renewed a couple of weeks ago, to start on the 13th.

When I rang my insurance to let them know I was charged £30 extra "because it's a newer car".

I got online quotes last night and the same insurer came up £30+ LESS. Other insurers were nearly £100 less.

I'm still within my 14 day cooling off period and so on Sunday I'll be ringing them to cancel.

Highway robbery!!!

Oh yes. Gluten for punishment if you dont shop around.

1 of the things I hate most is administration costs. Seems to be an excuse to take more money.

When you go to canccel they'll probably offer you a better price.

That's what I got.

There was no way they could go cheaper.

Then I said I'm cancelling as I have a better quote and I got another 10% off...

I'll be £100 better off. Nearly enough to wrap the roof.

And, they took the £30 extra yesterday, BUT, the initial cost of the insurance still hasn't been taken  :wonder:

They are literally a law unto themselves sometimes.  Take out a new policy with the cheapest alternative and say goodbye to them, no matter what price they offer. My line with price matching of any kind is and will always be: if you can afford to undercut the competition, that's the price you should have offered first.

Yep, I've had this a number of times. I call up to cancel and suddenly they make a better offer, I tell them to shove it and if they had a better price, they should have offered it from the start instead of trying it on.

WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke to my insurance company yesterday & to add business to my current policy would be no change to swap from my Octy vRS to a new Yeti L&K 1.8 TSi for 5 months cover, not even a £25 admin fee.

There is a  lot to be said  for paying a couple of £ more for service.

I have found in the last 2 years my insurance company renewal has been the same price on line as if i was a new customer, so looks like at least they have learned something.

Funny how they never come onto these threads to justify these rip off legalised thieving charges..

Hated with untold unfathamonable  amounts of gusto here.

You've got to have it though, and don't they just know it.. :swear:

If it's of any use to anyone, I had a very positive experience with Tesco Bank insurance yesterday. I'm ready to pick up my vRS on Sunday, so I needed to transfer my current policy onto the new car from the old Pug 306 I'm currently driving and get the pug added on a temporary basis.  £50 to add the Skoda till August, including the admin fee, and £30 for one month on the pug.  Totally happy with that and I got to speak to someone in a UK call centre at 7pm at night who was perfectly pleasant and helpful.  Couldn't fault them

Seems very reasonable Maieth, How did you go about having two cars on one policy? I was told I couldn't use my NCB on two cars? Or am I getting things confused?

Sainsbury's were very similar with me when I came to arrange a policy - friendly - helpful - well spoken - and available at 7pm and later.

Insurance companies of all kinds seem to be the same, tell them you've got a quote for £100 less, and the chances are they'll panic and offer you the same.
