Skoda book time to fit 2 new wishbones

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me what Skoda says for removing and replacing 2010 vrs wishbones. I have seen an independent say 1.5 hours.

Is this the same for Skoda please?

Thanks

Not sure but about double that of any well experienced independent garage.

My front wishbones were replaced for S3 versions recently. With a ramp they were done in 30 minutes.

Have you noticed much difference with the S3 arms. How old is your car pls?

Sorry do you have a part number for the s3 ones pls

To the OP:

3x ball joint bolts

3x bolts on the back mounting

1x bolt at the front.

Hook in with a rattle gun & it would be 30 mins per side maximum plus putting on hoist & road test.

from some cliff notes I was storing elsewhere

Hopefully you can make sense of it.  The more I look, the more I believe Passat spindles might be the best bang for buck / weight reduction.  If the Octavia has the pressed / welded metal LCAs then you're only saving about 500grams per side.

B6 Passat Left Spindle - 3C0407253F

B6 Passat Right Spindle - 3C0407254F

B6 Passat Control Arms (L/R interchangeable) - 3C0407151E

Bushing only GBP9

TT aluminum control arms - 8J0 407 151 D - rear bush bracket doesn't fit mKV chassis - needs 1x hole elongated

Audi S3 arms inc bushes
1K0 407 151 AK left
1K0 407 152 AK right

lower control arm bushing Audi S3 and RS3:

1K0 199 231 N left
1K0 199 232 N right

Passat arms & spindles are interchangeable with Octavia/Golf. The Passat units are made of alloy. MkV Golf had cast steel arms; Mk6 has pressed steel; Octavia has ??? (I haven't looked). Those fancy looking SuperPro arms with ALK are just polished Passat arms with a diffent pivot casting for anti-lift.
It appears that the cast steel LCAs are 4kg; the Passat LCAs are 2.2kg (2006-2009) or 1.9kg (2009 onwards). I haven't got a weight on the pressed steel units but anecdotely they are only about 500gms more than the passat units.
Passat spindles are alloy & weigh 3kg; Golf (inc Golf R)/Octavia are cast steel - 4.5kg. 1.5kg per side weight saving

Do you know the torque settings for the bolts please?

Rear bush, front bush and ball joint please?

I usually just hook-in depending on bolt size.  I describe it as a calibrated elbow.  I also use undersized tools so I don't get too much leverage - eg: I usually work in 1/4 or 3/8 drive & use short Stahwille ring spanners that cut into your hand if you pull too hard).   If I'm re-using old fasteners I'll either tighten it well or use factory settings plus a bit more or I'll change the stretch bolt to a conventional bolt.

From a quick google (it's an amazing resource!!)
