Headed up towards Glencoe last night but got held up behind a queue of red lights on the steep sweeping bend going up the Back Mount just before Rannoch Moor in heavy snow. Cars were strewn all over the place and had to be pushed up the hill and over the summit one at a time.

The VRS with the Continental WinterContact TS830's on just plodded up the hill and on past all the cars that had now become stuck on the moor. Took it nice and steady and reached our destination safely although a bit later than planned. I was worried that we would have to spend the night in the car in freezing conditions with our 5year old.

I was going to swap the 18's with the summer tyres back on last weekend but as I was very busy, I didn't have time.

Once again, I have been even more convinced winter tyres are well worth the money.

Had a similar experience a few weeks ago in the lake district going over the Kirkstone pass. I was driving SWMBO's bright yellow VW Beetle with butter flies and bows all over it and a great big flower sticking out of the dash !

Had some cheap Nankang SV's on and they obliterated the ice and snow that left other inferior vehicles stuck. !

I was so impressed I turned around and went past the stuck cars again but SWMBO said no to a third pass as that would be taking the Michael !

Lol at the two passes! Love it.

Cold start to the week being forecast so will be keeping the Nokians on the Octy for at least another week, if not two.

 

I just need to keep reminding myself the new Fabia has the low-resistance jobs and not the Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons which the Polo it replaced had. Be a shame to put it in a ditch given I only picked it up two weeks ago! Will get some GV4S on it in time for next winter.
