Paint correction

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Is it possible to get rid of light swirl marks in a cars paintwork effectively by hand?

I don't own a DA polisher, so am looking for the most effective product to correct the paintwork by hand. Am I right in thinking that a Gtechniq C1 polish is ok? The car is 9 months old so the paint is not too bad that it needs anything harsh, and I don't see the point of using a product with fillers in to mask the problem.

I know I'll have to have a look at my washing technique so that I can prevent this happening in the future as well!

Thanks in advance

Charley

On such a nice car, I would rather just pay one of the detailers on here (e.g. ChrisRS) and get it machine polished

Will be perfect then, and they will also advise you how to keep it that way in future.

No, with emphasis on the highlighted word.  It would take a high degree of effort to get decent paint correction by hand. :)  I am only speaking as someone who puts a lot of effort in by machine to get good paint correction.  Also, the paint on Skodas are particularly tough (A German thing I think) so doesn't make it any easier.

Its Gtechnik P1 Polish...not C1...That's ceramic sealer

Yes it can be used by hand but its very very hard work.

Swirls are best removed with a light machine polishing and then some protection over the top

You're not far from Chris either ( well closer than me anyway.....) 'The man' would be able to see both how thick your top coat was - so making sure you won't go through to the base coat underneath and give you a lesson on what to use and how to reduce the risk of it happening again.

In short snow foam, jet wash, 2 bucket method with ph neitral shampoo NO sponges, use a lambs wool mit or pad followed by another jetwash and microfibre towels to dry off, no chammies please....

There's quite a few threads in the styling and care section on 'how to' with such a nicecar it would be rude no to go and see him....

Many thanks for your comments gents, my mistake on the C1/P1 Chris! Gauging everyone's thoughts, it would seem that hand polishing is not the ideal route to take - I shall admit defeat and get on bended knee and appeal to Chris's good nature, perhaps with good tuition I can stop the dreaded swirls from getting there in the first place.

Knee accepted...I am a teacher too!!
