Tensioner and belt.

Featured Replies

Changing Aux tensioner soon as mine is getting noisy(chirps from cold and sounds like I have a mouse under the bonnet lol, squealing and squeaking etc) and I`ve been warned that it could seize up and snap the belt along with the timing belt etc if left for too long.

Has anyone bought one of the ebay ones?   Will it be OEM standard??   It looks like the whole kit, tensioner, belt etc.  Price looks ok??

As long as it's a genuine Gates kit, it'll be fine. Gates make a lot of OEM stuff

I thought once the aux belt is off you cant re-use it? because they stretch??

Is there a walkthrough on here on how to easily remove and replace the tensioner and re-tension the new belt?  I`ve fitted a new aux belt to a Suzuki swift years ago.  But never replaced the whole tensioner unit.

It's a spring-loaded tensioner, so it'll just tension automatically. There's a lug that you can get a spanner on to release the tension, pop the belt off, undo 3x 13mm bolts, wrench it out and chuck it back together with the new one. A new tensioner will likely already be pinned in place in the fully "open" position, so once you pull the pin out, be sensible, as it'll flick back with some force.

I normally put a spanner on the tensioner before removing the pin, that way I can control it a bit more.  Obviously make sure the spanner has enough room to room and not get jammed on anything.

Nice. Sounds easier than I thought.  So I don`t need to worry about checking the tension of the belt once its all on?  Something on the car that's actually straight forward! lol

Its an automatic tensioner.

where to get the bearing at a reasonable price?

I`m not gonna bother changing the bearing on its own.  If i'm going to the trouble of taking the belt off I might aswell change the whole tensioner unit for the sake of 3 bolts!  Probably a quicker job changing the whole unit than the bearing on it's own.  lol
