also would the throttle body adaption using the vdcs fix this issue... when you accelerate a the throttlebody doesnt open unless you rev round 3-4rpm nd it only opens slightly..... does this sound like an issue>?

O2 sensor caused my Impreza to die in strange ways. Appeared to be fine, then as you slowed down, foot off the throttle, it would sometimes cut out. A PITA trying to turn across a road into a T junction.

 

So if O2 sensor is showing a fault, try unplugging it.... If that helps, try replacing it.

There's nothing wrong with using a third-party cable with VCDS Lite, it's explicitly sanctioned by Rosstech.

Check and clear all the fault codes, replace the the CTS, reset the ECU to base settings and properly adapt the throttle body and the EGR valve. Post back when it's all done and we can take it from there.

Coolant Temperature Sensor.  The thing that the ECU uses to sense how cold/hot the engine is, to adjust fuelling accordingly.

The thermostat housing isn't where you think, the CTS is at the front left of the engine by the coilpack.

Why would you come to this conclusion. I do hve  few electrical faults.. Like heated seats n mirrors n stuff like that....

this problem only hppened after i replaced the head gasket... so i removed throttlebody ect

vindaloo Your info was a great help... Ok basically unplugged o2 sensor also there was a black wire on the battery terminal that had broken, sorted that.. decided to try my luck and take for a drive....NO CUTTING OUT .... BUT my charcoal box (breather pipe) chucked all the old oil and water gunge from head gasket back in to my throttle body and the car did cut out again but i could actualy stop 9/10 so i think an engine flush job is and oil and oil filter and shall update...
