VW Up! Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

I can't remember which post it was in, but someone was talking about flat bottomed steering wheels.

I was on AutoTrader the other day and a VW Up! had what appeared to be a leather trimmed, flat bottomed steering wheel.

I did an eBay search, but nothing solid.

It might fit straight on - I'm going to keep looking - could be a nice addition to the interior.

I had a new shape golf as a courtesy car when my fabia was having spark plugs replaced under warranty, it had a cheap plasticky flat bottomed wheel, which to me felt extremely odd and I didn't get on with it at all.

In general this pauper spec golf with the 86bhp tsi was a hateful car IMO, to think that it costs as much as my vrs estate from new is borderline criminal.

.....and there I go, rambling again

I had a look in an UP at the dealers a month or so or go. I hated the rest of the car, but i loved the steering wheel.

It does look lovely

No idea if it fits a fabia or not though im afraid

The Golf is a great car but 86bhp in one couldn't have been much fun!

Fun is definitely not a word id use, although it was a very refined unit, it was the small details that bugged me more, specially when you consider the price premium over a skoda equivalent. Silly things like the wing mirrors being a stupid shape, sun visors are recessed into the roof making them a pain to deploy.

Anyway enough of my barely relevant ranting haha

I know this is completely irrelevant to the topic

But the fabia mirrors are bloody brilliant i think. A lot better than everything else iv driven, except vans of course

Not sure I could get on with a flat bottom wheel, it defies everything we learn in driving lessons. Not that anybody continues with the steering wheel shuffle after passing the driving test. I've got used to the way I handle the steering wheel and the flat bottom would throw that out of the water.

I know what you mean.

I stopped shuffle steering as soon as i got out of the test car though.

I still use both hands most if the time, but think a flat bottom would be good myself.

Everybody has a different driving style though, so i can imagine it wont suit everybody

Looking at the pics it should fit fine from what I can tell - the airbag is what would worry me - meaning if your would be able to program it via VCDS to work properly with the Fabia.

The badge would be changeable too?

It does look good. Bit steep at £475 for the time being though. I think ill stick with the round one for now haha.

I guess youd never know about thevairbags without trying it?

The badge on the airbag? no you can't remove it unless you break it as they are melted in place.

As for the airbag you are very right.

By the way the Octavia RS has got a flat bottom wheel - I like it.

Ah i see.the up wheel would look properly good though i think.

I do like the octy wheel. Apart from it has red stiching and that would look completely out of place on my se haha.

It would look good on a monte though. They have red sticking on the gear lever and handbrake dont they?

Unless i swapped the lot for red stitched leather.

Oo this is getting more expensive haha

My Monte has red stitching and the red/black checked seats - not sure if all colour combos do.

If there is a Skoda alternative, I'll look at that.  That said, will the Octy wheel be bigger?  Equally, is the Up! wheel tiny...?

Pipe dreams, as tyres need to come first.

It did look abit small on the UP i saw. But it could of just been me. It might be the same size.

Hmm i dont know if all the montes have red stitching. The white one i test drove did

All wheels are the same size in the Skoda fleet - I would expect the same with the VW fleet aswell.
