How much is a new seat base?

Featured Replies

I'm a little bugged by some creases on the base covers of my Superb leather seats. I'd like to replace both front bases so they have no more creases! It's only done 48k but I think the previous owner didn't get in carefully, or slouched, or was umm not so light?!

Has anyone ever enquired how much a leather base is, and is it an easy replacement?

Thanks :)

Hi, Leon. Not sure how useful this is but, a foam seat base for a MkI Fabia is around £65 so I'd add another £40 to that. The cover removal isn't too difficult but you'll need new hog rings or you can get away with cable ties at a push. If it was me, I'd take it to an upholsterer as refitting covers is a right PITA.

EDIT. Also use some leather balm on the seats. I use SWMBO's horsey saddle stuff for her seats. If it's good enough for a 4K horse chair, it's good enough for some manky Skoda seats ;)

Hmm I do treat the leather, and protect it. Maybe I'm being picky... normal people wouldn't care!

Thanks for your heads up on price, I will email a dealer, and get a quote but thought I'd ask on here first. :)

No way of just tightening it up by putting smaller hog rings in?

That's a good point. I think the padding has lost a bit of shape too which hasn't helped.

Don't know how much a base would cost but a rear headrest will set you back €500 +.

I had one replaced under warranty last week and that was the cost of it. Either try to fix the base yourself or get an upholsterer to do it as Skoda will shaft you.

I very much doubt that it would only be another £40 for a leather cover I think you would be lucky to get a cloth one for that money.

For experience with other manufacturers I would guess at around £150-£200 per seat.

I'm going to assume it'll be a high price. When I worked at Fiat & Alfas in parts I was shocked what some prices for parts were even for a little Panda!

Try £411.22 each!!!

You could probably get the interior recovered in better quality leather for £1000.

Is that just for the foam pad? Colour match to the leather would be difficult.

Seat Surgeons in York will do a full leather retrim for £950 + VAT (I think) for the Superb.  I would go that route rather than throw money down the drain by replacing the seat base covers with OEM ones.

Ouch..

I think I would live with it or take it to a good car trimmers and see if they could pad it out a bit.

Yeah, thats a good point but I think I know as soon as I've done it I'll see another car I'd want! That's pretty good value though fot that much leather.
