  • I've been advised just to do the fronts. Bump stops come in the coilover kit.

Sorry Martziniuk I thought it had a bearing or a sleeve or something in ? Was just thinking something would be worn by now on a 56 plate 60k miles ?

Do they have a bearing? I didn't think so but mine work perfect after 120k, most don't replace them and if they did happen to they're very easy to replace, not like the fronts!!

Yes mate, they do have a bearing in the rears just been checking. Like I say something holding a moving part will be subject to wear of some kind so I am going to replace front and rear mounts/ bearings including new front and rear bump stops as once it's all in then it will have a full 4 wheel laser alignment reset to factory spec.Having to remove a mount after this will result in having to get laser aligned re done at £80 a go. Rear mounts are £11 each so it's a no brainier not to do it now. My car is on 60k with no probs but shorter shocks b8s and sports springs may well cause excess wear on old bearings/ mounts. Peace of mind for an extra couple of quid.

Do I need bump stops also?

Agree with Davey on this one having done some reading up. I'm going to order all front and rear top mounts and bump stops. Piece of mind once it's all tightened up and aligned. Can't beat the feeling of fitting new parts.

Does anyone have part numbers?

They sometimes come with the kit. You should check. I've heard you don't need to replace unless they are crumbling. But I would just buy them. Skoda sell them for 7 quid.

I'm doing mine at end of month. I'm buying kit. Drop links, bumpstops and the above top mounts. When it's in garage if any rubbers need replacing they can get them on or get them ordered over as they work as any parts shop will have them. Few days later it then goes in for the 4 wheel alignment. Job done :)

Ps: I'm also going to get rear mounts as well, if they that cheap I just aswell :)

£7 each or a pair? I've found some on eBay Febi (Bilstein) for £11 but if they are only £7 for 2 OEM I'll get those?!

Yup exactly mate ... All nice and new ! Will post part numbers tomorrow after ordered and confirmed !

Yea I did see them for £7 and I am desperate to find the link as I hate to not have facts correct. I did have it saved on safari on iPhone but I can remember deleting it thinking ill find them easy when it's time to buy. However, if they don't come with your kit (check) then can you go wrong with bilstein for £11?

I'm in exactly the same boat as you guys, I'm just going to be a month behind. So ill probably use your links :)

My car is booked in for next wednesday so I need to get everything ready. I've been advised to get new top mounts but I had no idea until tonight what that included. Either way I'll be getting all I need so that it won't need doing ever again, well as long as I have the car anyway.

Yet another spanner in the works guys ! Phoned up to order all parts just before only to be told front strut mounts come with bearing as per link but these ones don't come with the ball bearing ? They don't know if I need one as they can't tell off there system even with chassis number. The guy on the phone told me to get a mechanic to check it out before I order ! FFS !

Are you saying this kit doesn't come with a bearing?

If not what do I need?

Edited by billywhiz040480

Billywhiz yes mate the one you have posted is correct the circular part next to the triangular part is the bearing, however when I spoke to some German guy at buycarparts he said this kit does not come with a BALL Bearing ! Obviously a ball bearing is a spherical so until I find out if this bit is needed I've placed my order on hold ! Never into life have I experienced so much difficulty in ordering the correct parts it's truly beyond ....

Oh good because I don't want to have the mechanic running around for parts and costing me more, if I get them all together beforehand then that saves time.

So, I have the B12 kit, front top mount.......

.....what else should I get, rear top mount and bump stops front and back?

Yes that's what I'm going for. I phoned buycarparts again to hope to speak to someone a bit more clued up, I got the same guy who insisted I had to tell him what part numbers I wanted not the other way around ! Correct me if I'm wrong but you normally phone parts companies to see what they advise ! There is a reason this particular company seem to be the cheapest. They have No customer service skills and don't have any idea of what it is they are supposed to be advising you on ! I will be staying clear of that company for sure.

Not good :( I like the sound of saving a few quid, but the lad at the parts shop up the road is funny and ya can have a good yarn, sure it costs a few pennies more but at least you get the right stuff. I'm fed up of endless searching the net for a deal.

Just my rant! :)

Good luck. Hope you get there. Please let me know when you do!

Would TPS not have the mount kits in stock? I've always used them for everything and maximum wait for any parts has been 24hrs so far...

Iirc, front top mounts and bearings for my Mk4 Golf were £15 all in, Mk3 Golf were similar, cant see a Mk5 Golf/Octavia being much different..."Geniune" parts aswell..

If the guys you're talking to can't search for a part, I'd personally not bother with them!

Just been reading now and apparently I don't need front bump stops when fitting a Bilstein B12 kit as it's inbuilt, plus normal bump stops won't fit anyway as the monotube strut is so thick.

Also should I be fitting shorter bump stops on the rear as the car will now be lowered 30mm?

Please Stop adding more complications ! :) I will read my install kit tom to find out about the inbuilt bumpstops on the fronts. As for the rears the -30mm springs will only give a 10-15 mm drop on a vrs, as it's lowered 20mm compared to standard Octavia's. So maybe just trim 10-15 mm off the bumpstop as it's only rubber ? Seriously if anymore problems crop up over this suspension I'm gonna give up or go the opposite way and put a 4" lift kit on the vrs rather than lower it ! ;)

It's not a VRS it a Sport so not as low as you. Lots of other forums have said the same as you mind with regards to trimming, basically buy some new ones and trim!

After contacting Bilstein and a seller on eBay I have found out two things important to lowering:

Firstly - if your installing a Bilstein B12 kit you will not need to replace the front Bump Stops as they are internally fitted to the B8 Monotube dampers so only the rears may be needed.

Secondly - if you have Sports suspension bump stops are length specific, i.e. standard on the Octavia is 133mm, my Sport is 118mm so I suspect the VRS to be less again. For me that's a difference of 15mm and with the B12 offering a 30mm drop I'm only likey get 15mm and will evidently need Bump stops measuring 103mm.

Good this is head work and not something I need when the car is going in to have the B12 kit fitted next wednesday. After supplying my reg to the eBay guy he refunded my money and explained I needed '118mm oval' Bump Stops which he didn't stock and that the 133mm ones I'd ordered were incorrect for my chassis.

Here are some part numbers for Oval Rear Bump Stops:

1K0511353 F - 133mm.

1K0511353 N - 118mm.

1K0511353 S - 103mm.
