changing the fuel filter

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a diesel Octavia 2005,purchased it from new but never changed this filter, having looked on youtube on how to change it, they mention the type where there is a centre torx screw which is the type I have and talk about removing this screw first before the outer torx screws, on my car I find that this screw looks like its been filled in at time of manufacture and cannot be removed, would it be ok for me to just remove those outer torx to complete the job ?

many thanks

John

One of the Torx bolts on mine looks filled in as well but this is due to some ham fisted mechanic in the past having over tightened it and snapped the bit off in the bolt head.

if you cant do i get a garage to do it. 9 years on the same filter isnt good

If you can change it yourself it's gonna be cheaper, Had mine in main dealer yesterday (VW dealer) for service and MOT, Charged me £50 to change the Diesel fuel filter on the Octy,, Be changing myself next time, It's only £20- £25 for the filter...

Thanks all for your help, in the end I went ahead removing only the outer torx , the job went well, taking me around 20mins, then after replacing the old filter I topped up with diesel and then replaced the outer torx , turned on the ignition without turning the engine over a couple of times ,to pump a little more diesel through, then turned engine over, started first time without any stalling too. I purchased the filter from GSF who gave a nice 25% off the price of just under £20 .after reserving online before picking up.

i had a bike that manged 18 years with the original fuel filter :)

agreed though, every 5 years id change it

Check the filter for leaks regularly over the next few weeks as they are notorious for leaking, resulting in catastrophic engine damage if not noticed and rectified within good time.
