Missing under-tray on VRS?

Featured Replies

Perhaps someone on here can confirm whether I have the full compliment of under-trays on my VRS TSI?

Last week I had a leaky coolant pump fixed by my dealers. Today I looked under the car and believe there may be a missing rear under-tray part. Please look at the picture below and tell me whether the engine base should be clearly visible or not. I am pretty sure it was covered beforehand, and there are some electrical cables and fittings down there which can clearly get wet.

I will pretty damned annoyed if it is missing because they kept me waiting for ages and the one thing I asked them to double check was that the under-tray was properly fitted back on. It does seem that there are mounting points for a 3rd missing tray part.

I would really appreciate it if someone with a VRS TSI could check for me.

..or perhaps I am just going mad.

That's the service plate fitted. Doesn't appear to be anything missing. Thought there was first time looking at the pic but it was just the angle

Cheers parsey83. Strange thing is that I was sure there was a tray covering the engine base, but perhaps I am confusing it with my previous cars. It also seems strange to have electrical terminals so open to the elements, but again I may be being over-anxious with my new baby.

Maybe someone else with a TSI can confirm for sure and remove completely any lingering doubts I have?

100 percent sure mate just double checked mine. The plastic part you see there comes away with about 8 torx screws. I had this off to fit the dtuk box. I know what you mean about exposed connections but they will withstand the elements, the connections are sealed once joined together.

Cheers again. I am glad that it is just me being daft, rather than neeeding another trip back to the dealers. I must be confusing it with the tray on my last car.

How are you finding the DTUK box parsey83? I may fit one myself when the car has covered a few thousand miles (it's currently on just 520 miles).

For some reason diesels come with a full under tray and patrols only come with half undertray. Same as all the other skoda ie fabia tdi vs tsi.

Is it confirmed that diesels come with full undertrays? I remain pretty certain that my TSI had one before it went to the dealers (whether it needs it or not). Beforehand when I went to put the car on axel stands to check the coolant leak I couldn't find a convenient point due to the tray being in the way. When I checked again today there was plenty of space, so something has changed.

Maybe recent TSi's have the extra part of the tray fitted?

Can anyone with a VRS TDI please tell me for sure whether they have an additional section of under tray covering the engine base?

Whether or not a TSI needs one, I am pretty sure mine looked different (had an extra section) before the trip to the dealers.

Just been out to mine and there's certainly no opening like that on it, it has the two intake ducts like in the top right of your photos but that's the only similarity.  There's isn't even a removable panel on mine in that area, it's just one piece so I assume the whole thing has to be removed as one piece.

Maybe a trip to the dealers forecourt would answer your question, might get mucky knees though..

I had thought of that, but my dealer did not have any other VRS's when I took my car there last week.

Thanks for taking the time. Much appreciated.

My car was at the dealers for two days. I assume they took the original tray off on day #1 and did not refit it until day #2 when the needed part arrived. If Octavia's do have partial and full tray options (as above posts indicate), I guess it is possible that trays were mixed, especially if taken off & refitted on different days, and possibly by different people,

It niggles me because I am almost certain that there was no place to fit axel stands before taking it to dealers due to the over-sized tray covering everything. I had to setting for jacking the up on one side and reach under the car to hunt for my leak rather that being able to get fully underneath it. Now there are more options to place axel stands to the frame.

On one hand I doubt myself and think maybe I am confusing the tray with my old car, but that had convenient holes cut out of the tray to allow access to jacking point. It is strange, and I would love to find another TSI owner with a full tray to confirm that I am not completely mad :whew:.

I'll have a look under mine this evening (if I remember). I have the optional under tray protection. I'm assuming you do too? Do cars without that option come with something similar underneath the engine?

I did not ask for the under tray protection option.

I did not ask for the under tray protection option.

I don't think there's even the option in the UK on the vRS but mine has a full undertray.
