Bkr7e spark plug help

Featured Replies

So, unsure if my car is standard or mapped. Previous owner claims it mapped but no proof.

Anyway, done a few things over the last few months including replacing the coil packs for later set of version D.

This week I ordered some BKR7E as recommended on here. Fitted today and gapped to 0.28 was 0.32. Old plugs which came out were ngk 6q's with audi stamps on. They were also gapped to 0.28. Now, since fitting the new plugs it idles as normal and cruises as normal but accelleration doesnt seem as good and I have managed to stall it twice on pull off!

Could this just be in my head or does there appear to be an issue?

Thanks in advance

I'm using BKR7Es in a stock engine. It seems to idle and run OK, looks like it might just be placebo effect?

I use the same BKR7E on a stock 1.8t non VRS and runs perfect.

My oppinon,you shouldn;t gap them

My advice would be to first gap to 0.32 and run at that and see how runs, then gap downwards to 0.28 if no different.

If your car is not mapped 0.28 is too low.

Also check coilpacks are seated well as you might of disturbed these and or your coil wiring

As bowders says, 0.028 is more for remapped as the extra boost pressure can blow spark out for larger gap unless you run mk6 coil packs. It can take a bit of trial and error to get the gap right.

I have a set of those bosch super 4 efforts i got on offer from ECP but not fitted yet. The ones that are in now are denso, just debating whether or not its worth fitting the bosch ones? Sorry for thread hijack. Has anyone used the bosch super 4's?

No probs mate, i was close to fiiting the platinum bosch versions of the ngk bkr7e, only £17 from ford as they are used in most later ford engines. Was also considering the super 4's quite cheap but settled for people have already tried and tested. If you do use them, let me know what you think
