Fog lamps

Featured Replies

Just realised on my new Rapid that the fog lamps come on when steering wheel in turned away from straight ahead even though fog lamp hasn't been selected on the light switch.

Ie just on main headlights if steering wheel turns wheels to left just the left fog lamp illuminates.

Not what I expected when it said cormering fog lamps, thought this would only work when fog lamps selected.

That's exactly how cornering fogs work. If they only worked when the fogs were on then nothing would happen....

ok, thanks.

Never had that before and perhaps thought that they moved in there casings when turning, didn't realise they turned on the side you turned on  normal headlights.

Thanks.

MMMM?

Is this feature on all Rapids? Or what trim level/date was it introduced on?

They both turn on when you select reverse too.

I'm sure my neighbours think I'm one of those idiots who drive round with their front fogs on when it's not foggy as I reverse onto my drive each night!

That explains me seeing my foglights on in a window opposite a T-junction the other week. I could only see the side I was turining too as a car was blocking the other side. When I got home I checked the lights to see if they worked ok. I thought the foglamps were on permanently in error!

Doh!

Oh I forgot about this feature!

Thank you for the reminder, I'll try it :)

There on the Elegance as standard.

Glad I wasn't the only one who wasn't 100% sure how they worked. !  :wonder:

Can i get this feature on my poor SE???? ;<(

Did I miss something?

While I was parked with motor on, I tried to see (from the inside) how it looked like by turning full left or full right but couldn't see anything special about the lights.

Oh... is it because I was on the handbrake...?

You need dipped headlights turned on before the cornering fog lights will work.

Turn the steering wheel or turn on the indicator - both of these inputs will result in the cornering fog light illuminating.

You of course also need to ensure your Rapid is fitted with front fog lights!

Oh, and they only work at speeds under 30mph.

Probably yes, but only by someone with VCDS.

Hello silver1011,

I tried again with your advice and also after reading again the manual.

My car is well fitted with front (and rear) fog lights, but I couldn't make them light on while steering or turning on the indicator.

Motor was on, dipped headlights were on, fog lights were off, and I tried both while moving slowly and not moving: nothing happened.

Maybe I should contact my dealer about it?

Zove,

is yours an Elegance model as its only on these.

kph100

Ok, it's an Ambition.

Thanks for pointing that out, kph100.

Anyway to tweak it?

Yes, you need to find someone in Belgium with VCDS (laptop, cable and software) to make the changes for you.

If not then a dealer should be able to do it.

Fog lights are only fitted to the higher spec Rapid's here in the UK and most of these have the cornering system already activated.

Have you looked in the CAR menu on the infotainment?

It may be selectable in there.
