Puncture after just 300 miles

Featured Replies

Bad luck today – discovered a nail through one of my Pirelli tyres after the car has done just 300 miles since new. Luckily, I had ordered the optional spare wheel. Skoda’s free RAC man fitted the spare and I was able to drive to my local tyre depot. The nail is near the tyre edge (un-repairable), so a new tyre has been ordered (expecting £155). The Yeti toolkit didn’t include "wheel nut cover removal pliers" (wrongly, a wheel trim remover was included) so I’ve emailed the Skoda dealership for one.

What are members thoughts on the service contracts that include tyres?

As I drive 20K+ miles a year, I had a Skoda tyre contract as part of a maintenance for my Superb and totally regretted it. It does not cover punctures and I had five during the three year period, meaning that each tyre that Skoda provided was near £300. Current car did 22K front and 35K rear and using local dealer saved an absolute fortune by comparison. Needless to say I have not opted for the tyre package on the newly ordered Yeti.

Should have said doesn't cover tyre replacement due to non-repairable puncture (which most appear to be these days)

I managed to destroy a tyre on ours after 2000 miles on a pothole - completely tore the sidewall of the Pirelli. I paid £139 for a replacement and considered myself fortunate a) I spec'd the spare wheel & B) the Matterhorn alloy survived.

I have the claim forms printed ready to send to the council.

BTW jacking up the car & swapping the wheel is very easy with the supplied kit. No need to call the RAC out unless you're not very mobile.

BTW your tyre probably IS repairable but it would require a specialist repair that most tyre centres don't have the kit to do.

My local one can do shoulder & sidewall repairs - they're done to British Safety standards. They cost about £40 but repair the tyre to original strength.

Are you sure it's not there?

My spare wheel kit also included a 'wheel trim removal tool' despite the car being fitted with alloys.

It's normally inserted in the little square hole just above the head of the wheel brace...

My Yeti was supplied with the wheel trim remover instead of the wheel nut cover removal pliers so I rang the dealer who willingly supplied them. Wonder if Skoda forgot or what? Seems like a pattern here. Don't ALL UK Yetis have alloys? Why supply the wheel trim remover anyway?

If you don't know what to expect in the boot, you don't know to ask - e.g. top up oil.

You still need the trim remover on the FL, it is used to remove the trim around the fog light to change the bulb.

When I collected my Yeti, getting home I checked the tool kit jack etc, did not see or find the wheel nut cover removal tool.

The dealer gave me another one and, I purchased a spare one (tool).

Couple of weeks later took the rear seats out to see how they worked and found the nut cover tool under one of the seats.

Just found the wheel nut cover pliers lying loose in the bottom of the boot area. One owner ('137699') mentioned a £40 repair, but maybe £155 for a new tyre provides peace of mind. The tyre depot used a measuring device to check the distance from centre of tread to puncture. The spare wheel tyre is much 'fatter' than I expected, it certainly fills up the boot's under floor space.

There are nut cover pliers?????

Had a similar experience at around the same mileage, thankfully the nail went through the tread so was able to have it repaired. But glad I had the spare as well!
