GPS

Featured Replies

Right so in my fabia I have the sat nav as an optional extra! Over the past few weeks I've had problems with it thinking I'm in the sea.

This at first was intermittent and would work some days but not others. Now it just shows me as in the sea all the time. When I type in a destination it gives me directions but from the wrong starting place.

I had a look at the GPS antenna on top and realised it was a little loose so I give it a little wobble and surprise surprise water starting splashing out and I'm guessing this is the problem!

Could anyone tell me how to get to the antenna to remove it? I know I have to take the lining back but I don't want to be damaging her at all! So just a few steps?

As well as that where can I get a new antenna? I've found one on ebay which is said to be for my model but if someone could just point me in the right direction that would be great! Thanks guys!

In the sea huh?

Climate change?

Yup, that'll be it. :)

Haha! Yeh, climate change at it's extreme!

How would I get to the antenna?

Climate change has nothing to do with  it!  You've already told us you habitually drive in the sea.  Water in the antenna is the least of your worries.

Is it not under warranty?  I had similar issue with my Octavia - access is by partial removal of the headlining I think.

Please tell me you don't actually think I've Been driving in the sea?

The sat nav shows me as being in the sea haha!

Okay, thanks for the help guys!

I have had prob with water being held in the seal but has not effected my antenna. Take it to the garage to have a look at it. Maybe the software on the system needs updating.

Is it the Amundsen+? Think I've spelt it wrong. Lol

Yeah the antenna will be faulty, take it in if under warranty.

By the way the seal on the sharkfin is there to limit moisture ingress but not stop it completely....i had a panic attack on my Mk2 Octavia Blackline ad with a small amount of pressure I was able to het it to flex and lift the base enough at the front to break the seal.....i thought thay perhaps it was loose or faulty but it was by design.

If it was a software problem surely it just wouldn't work at all? I've tried it off both an sd card and the disc and it just didn't make a difference!

I've tried a reset as well! When I say water coming out I mean quite a lot! It's not under warranty but if I take it to skoda do you think they reset it for me?

Next to the cd eject button does it have a button with a star symbol? I may know how to reset it.

If it an amunsden at nav. It will have an i (information button next to the reject button. Press the track change buttons and the I or star button until the screen goes off then let go of all he buttons. This will reset your nav.

I tried your suggestion but it never turned off! Any other ideas?

Try resetting to factory settings. Through the options menu. See if that helps. I will look into to see if any other ways to reset.

I've already tried that! Thanks for helping man! Let me know if you find another way to reset!

If the antenna's failed then this is probably your cheapest option: http://www.cars-equipment.com/www/en/shop/roof-antenna/oem-6r0035501c-vw-polo-skoda-octavia/ [i have no affiliation with the site other than being a satisfied customer].

There are two clips at the back of the head lining that you'll need to carefully remove and then it should be possible to gently ease the headlining down at the back to get access to the antenna retaining nut and the connectors.

Having found that on ebay would that do the job? If not I'll just get the one that you have linked, if I can save myself some dollar for my remap then I will haha!

Where abouts are the clips located?

Sorry for being slow in responding I missed that you'd replied. The ebay item might do the job if you're willing to buy a couple of connector converters which cost about £12 from Halfrauds and fit  a power cable from somewhere to feed it. The converters are easy, the power cable will be a load more hassle and potentially need you to remove lots of interior trim.

The clips are about the size of a ten pen piece and should be quite visible at the back of the headlining.

Hi daz1412

My ex's Fabia SE plus had exactly the same issue where the satnav would say the location was miles away from where it was, usually saying it was in the sea. It was fixed under warranty, I thing it was the GPS aerial but I not 100% sure now.

So It isn't an isolated incident so it might be worth contacting ŠKODA to see if its a known issue and they might contribute towards fixing it even though its out of warranty.
