Goodyear efficient grip performance.

+1.  Excellent wear (14 months so far and plenty left), extremely quiet, good in wet and excellent grip round Angelsey on a track day.

+2 same reasons plus I get a bit more mpg with them on the front.

+3 for the Goodyears, rated A for grip, B for economy and low noise at 69db

Is grip better than F1 Assys?...Sidewall strength as good?, Have a great rim protector? Is wear rate better?

Again: on a vrs?

get some vredestein ultrac sessantas there really good and the grip is immense

Just got 4 of these fitted.

grip well, brake well, drives really well, very little tyre noise even up to 140. Great tyre

if you have a budget I dont think you will get any better than these, plus they are actually style by an Italian designer (no seriously, quite a cool looking tyre in the flesh).

I have driven with the goodyears and they are a slightly better tyre in the wet (never got anywhere near the mileage some on here quoted but my driving style probably differs), in the dry you wouldnt be able to tell.

I have 2 Lassa Impetus tyres, also surprisingly good, never heard of them till I went to my usual fitter. About £78 each fitted.

Also no problem with having different makes front and rear.

vrs cr- covered 37 thousand miles with from new continental contact on rear 3-4mm left ,  fronts firestone put on front at 18 thousand still at 5mm 80-90% motorway miles?

You get what you pay for with anything, budget will keep you on the road, well maybe not sometimes! Or the other end of the range is the top makes like Michelin. I am in need of 4 new tyres and speaking to one of the tyre places they recommended a mid range tyre like a Prestivo considering I do about 7 to 8000 miles a year. That should be a good compromise.

I've never heard of these.  What rating are they?

I can recommend GY As2's, they give great dry and wet performance, a little soft and the quickest to wear for me 7.5k. They give great confidence. Thumbs up from me. (225/45/17 Leon 150tdi)

I also rate Bridgestone RE050a, they gave equal performance in he dry as the above, if anything I preferred their feedback and felt I could push further. The downside is slightly less confidence in the wet over the GY's. However they lasted longer 9k, but were more expensive than the GY's by £10 a corner.

I have had two sets of 4 of each of the above.

I now run verdestein sessantas, bought due to low cost any many positive reviews. The dry performance is good not quite as sure footed as above, their wet performance is on par with the above two tyres. The wear looks to exceed the 11k barrier. In torrential rain like we've had recently they were simply supurb. At the time I paid £75 a corner. I would certainly buy their replacement model. Value for money vs performance is hard to beat.

The above three have been on the Leon.

The GY efficient grip I have used for last 6 years on 205/65/15 on an Octavia. They are a very good tyre and O would recommend them too. I cant give fair comment on the wear rate (approx 5k a set) however if used within normal application I would expect similar wear to other GY tyres. Feel is good wet and dry, the side wall gives a little but would not be an issue with your low profile fitment.

Just because a tyre is not marketed as a sports/high performance variant does not mean they are no good for your application. Tyre prices are up and down all the time so one tyre may be more appealing one week and another the next when you take in all factors such as price/performance/availability.

hopefully some good advice/knowledge/feedback for you.

Excellent information.  Thanks for the feedback :)

haha style is always a must when purchasing new tyres.  I love this post :)

So Goodyear's it is then?  LOL

+1 for the Ultrac Sessanta, very good grip wet and dry and alloy protector lip.

After 2 new tyres for my vrs myself, how good is the rim protection on these.I have falcon 452s on and the rim protection on them is a waste of time.

haha give me chance.  Need to read up on them all before making any rash decisions

Maxxis MAZ1 have a massive rim protector. Used them for a few years, plenty of grip but found them too noisy in the end.

These may interest you....I bought some nearly a year ago for my Octy (I know these are Mercedes Spec) however the road noise in comparison to the Contact 2 that were on it is massively reduced, and they're really good in the wet  :giggle:

Just taken Dunlop sport off my scirocco, fronts were done but backs had almost 6mm on and the droning from them was terrible, will never entertain Dunlops again .

.

Interesting comment - thanks.

I may still be tempted to go for Dunlops at £45.30 as summer tyres for my car, though, on the strength of this review and their "A" rated (68db) noise level:

as compared to the Goodyears at £49.47 with a review which is no better and which are no quieter ("A" rated, 69db):

At these prices (I £ove having 15" wheels and using 65% profile tyres!) I don't care too much how long they last.

Rim protection is very good, gave one on the fronts a right crack on a kerb the other month and the alloy is fine.

I have used camskills in the past and always found them to be good. Due to time pressures and shift work I now use event tyres. http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/

Pricing is very good and they come to you. So all I have to do is open the door and and pay them. Very convenient. By the time I've driven to a garage and paid £5/10 a corner for fitting the difference is negligible, plus I have my time still.

I'm running Dunlop Sportmaxx RT on the front of mine. Seems quiet enough and they've gripped well in the wet and dry. When they do eventually breakaway it's very progressive,

Generally do well in expert reviews as well http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Dunlop/SportMaxx-RT.htm

I will try to break down from my experience and also from cars we have on company fleet, mix of cars, pickups, 4x4s, Vans etc. and what is available here:

1. First tier: Conti, Good Year, Dunlop, Michelin - good and expensive.

2. Second tier: Kumho, Fulda, Hankook, Nokian, Vredestein - good price/performance.

3. Third tier: Nexen, Sava, Semperit, Barum, Lassa, Kleber - affordable/acceptable.

4. Fourth tier: the ones to avoid except if no money: Any chinese (Roskstone, Goodride etc.), Federal, Tigar etc.

I will try to break down from my experience and also from cars.A useful general  we have on company fleet, mix of cars, pickups, 4x4s, Vans etc. ...

 .

A useful general quick guide - thanks!.

As I said before, one nice thing about running on 15" wheels and using 65% profile tyres is that the tyres in that size are so cheap that you can afford to buy really good ones,  which more than compensates for any theoretical (imaginary?) disadvantage of not using large-diameter rims and low-profile tyres.

Barum Bravuris 3 HM so far are ok for low. noise wheel protection and decent mpg. Got a wheel. refurbishment. tomorrow to sort. some pressure. loss. a bit roly poly. in corners .
