New vRS - chain or cambelt?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I can't find the information anywhere, so thought I'd ask here.

:)

Have they now changed the new TSI vRS to a cambelt, same as the CR?

TIA,

H

Blimey - two and a half hours and not a single reply.............did I ask a silly question folks?

I really can't find the answer online anywhere and it's not in any technical document I've managed to download for the vRS.

I know VAG replaced a lot of the timing chains in the petrol models for cambelts, but I wasn't sure if they had done so for the 2.0T in the Golf GTI and vRS (but instead had just upgraded the tensioners, etc.)??

Does anyone know?

Chain apparently

muddy - thanks for the link, but that's for the 200bhp engine.

the latest one is the 217bhp version in the new GTI and vRS; it might still be chain-cam, but I just can't find the info anywhere............

When I originally asked about the new model octavia and whether it was belt or chain I was told belt by the dealer. Whether or not that's correct I don't know.

Long life cam belt , I believe

Email Skoda UK or ask to speak to the workshop manager at your local dealer. They should be able to answer the question

My money is on chain driven,.....

Hopefully chain driven camshafts as they need no maintenance and should never need replacing.

It is definitely chain driven.

I think all the new <2L TSI engines are long life belt now but the 2.0 is chain I believe
