Which model to go for?

Can't recommend the 1.4tdi 3 pot enough, it's a cracker, yeah a bit noisy but as has been pointed out before its "characterful" !!

Makes some great sounds through the rev range that still make me chuckle, plenty of torque on offer, and from hours of research seem bombproof.

Currently seeing 68 mpg from mixed driving
