Tyres

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 60 plate diesel vrs estate which I love but... When I bought the car I later discovered the rears were in a hell of a state (the last time I try trust a main dealer!!) I am a bit short of cash at the moment so changed both rears for unbranded super cheaps on the basis that when the fronts are due I will change all four to something better. My question is this, now when I drive the car over 70 on anything but super smooth black tarmac I get a constant whining from the rears, when I bought the new tyres I had a four wheel alignment done as the old ones were fine on the outside but worn right down on the inside edges, the alignment showed they were not that much out so I assumed rightly or wrongly that the previous owner had swapped them around. Do the experts here think the whining is due to cheap rubber or a still incorrect alignment??

Thanks in advance.

Swop the fronts to the rear , then run it at 70 to see if it still whines, might be the cheap rubber, what decibel rating were they?

That's a good plan, thanks

A common fault called sawtoothing. I had that on mine and the dealers did the rear alignment twice but it still wasnt right. Got it done by a specialist it has been not too bad since but still wears slightly more on the inside on the rears.

Just going to replace the suspension (broken spring) and get the 4 wheel alighnment done again but locally tjis time at a place with Hunter kit which is seemingly very good.

What tyres did you put on?

When I bought my 330d BMW a few years back it came with some brand new Fullrun hp199 on the rear.

After 20 miles of driving I took the car back to the dealer as I was convinced the diff was shot. It sounded like a straight cut gearbox from a 1990's BTCC car. They checked the diff and nothing wrong with that but still a terrible whining noise.

To cut the story short, it was the tyres.

Standby. Back in a min with some pics!!

I've got Ultrac Vortis on mine and have had them on for around 4000 miles now. Although I'm not in the habit of curbing it on a regular basis I did curb it the other day exiting a roundabout with a 6" curb at around 40mph. On inspection there is no damage to the tyre or the wheel at all. Very impressed.

I'm also extremely impressed with the Vortis. I driven over 20,000 miles on Eagle F1 Assy 1's and 2's and can honestly say these Vortis are better in every aspect of driving and price. They are outstanding.

Here's some pics. Please excuse the state of my wheels, I've just returned from a 300 miles round trip!!!!

If you want high performance and quiet with a good rim pritector get eagle F1s

I agree the Goodyear Eagle F1 is a fantastic tyre and has excellent rim protection as well. Quiet, grippy and is also really good in the wet.

Having had both, those vredesteins are better all round, and cheaper.

So have I. The Eagle f1s are quiter , better in wet and handle better. Set of 4 235/40 18 475 pounds online

I've not curb my wheel but want down a pot hole and chipped some paint off on the edge with the falken and again when I parked in a farmers field.
