People doing less than 60mph on the motorway or DC.

Featured Replies

Phwoaarr all that wasted power! Haha.

Nah. Iv no quarms with people who dont overtake. They usually sit a distance back and chill. Its the ones 6inches away from the back of the lorry that are driving (and trying to overtake) whilst more or less blind.

Iv had a few moments where iv hung back (so i can see more) then built up speed and overtaken the car and lorry before theyve even realised theres a massive great clear straight ahead lol.

  • What's worse is when your driving that lorry and the retard decides when your passing them to speed up slightly.............. then slow down slightly, then up etc.

anybody driving slower than a lorry really needs a yellow flashing lights and warning signage, imho

  • Hmm, I appreciate I haven't driven a limited HGV before, but I do wonder what benefits are to be had when a wagon doing 54mph over takes a wagon doing 52mph?   Especially as you say it takes "3 days

Yes it was the best MPG evo in the UK

Absolutely NOT, nothing unsafe or illegal 'IF' others are driving properly. DHL in the UK alone would loose 180000 miles per day on your request. for this 2mph logic.

Who said anything about being illegal?

A lorry in lane 2 creeping past a very slightly slower vehicle in lane 1 in discourteous during busy periods.

It's OK for DHL to gain at the sacrifice of others then?

Fair point, but how many miles/minutes are lost by everyone else, the ones slowing down to 56mph whilst waiting for the overtake to happen

It more than likely happens on a motorway though. Rarely have i seen it on a dual carriageway, as it is a little pointless then.

On a motorway, there is of course 3 lanes. So although its a little irritating, i dont think its the end of the world for a following unrestricted car driver. You can always move over to the third lane. It makes a much bigger difference for a 56mph limited long distance lorry driver to get past that slightly slower lorry infront IMO

Not on my daily commute, over 30 miles of dual carriageway (A19, York to Stockton-on-Tees).

Miles and miles of rolling road blocks.

More often than not the lorry being overtaken then leaves at the next junction immediately after being overtaken. Great, thanks!

The reason it takes so long for them to overtake is the heavier wagon has greater downhill spee. But on an incline the heavier wagon is slower.

So its like a game of cat and mouse. Sometimes going on for 2 or 3 miles. On a dual carriageway!

Boils my pi55!

And they always like to overtake just before it opens up into a motorway. Cant you just wait 2 bloody minutes!

Don't know why someone hasn't developed and legalised a suitable sort of   KERS system for wagons to help overtake tbh.

These two wagons both I and approx 19 other cars had been following for 20 minutes on the A41 on the way home from the NEC on Sunday, eventually got to one of the only two short stretches of dual carriageway in 50 miles.

The lead wagon was religiously sticking to the 40mph limit, so the 2nd one bolted for the opportunity to overtake as soon as we got to the start of it.

Half to 2/3rds the way along it, most of us finally managed to get past the two of them.

If the second wagon had just hung back for 30 seconds, he'd have had the dual carriageway to himself, but no.

Almost my most popular (or busy anyway)  topic. :) :) :)

Good to hear from those in less motorway served areas. I also recall several DCs where it's quite dangerous trying to maintain a constant 60+. South Downs on the way to Worthing and on the way over towards Cockermouth in the Lake District spring to mind. So maybe local experience does lead us astray when we travel to more distant parts.

I think also, that commuting experience in the rush hour can lead to a certain approach that's defensively cautious (not a bad thing) but can appear rather out of place on a free moving motorway. Can appreciate not everyone is always 100% concentrating - whether tired or on the bladdy phone or even listening to the archers or similar.

That would pee me off too.

I guess it depends on circumstances then haha.

Anyone know if the A13 dual carriageway  from the M6 down to the M11 (is it?) is still running that experimental NO HGV's overtaking at certain times of the day?

if tey can so can you?

He is first in line. He has right of way over you behind so you can wait that extra few mins lol

what if the heavier wagon is a Volvo 750 and the lighter is a scania 420. i can tell you one thing the volvo is going to leave the scania on the hills.

'Good Friday' Easter Weekend get away,

Maybe needs renamed 'Road Captain' Season Opener.

Peace and good will to all man and woman kind.

'If you get overtaken in a safe manner because you are enjoying the trip and the views, please do not get upset, flashing and doing the hand signals,

if anyone needs to exceed the NSL to get past, and then proceed to their destination, as you sit doing 10-20 mph below it.!'

I seem to remember a road in south buckinghamshire area had this too.

I think you meant A14.....

Yes, the A13 goes Eastwards from Central London through India

and eventually ending up in Essex.

If only people payed the slightest bit of attention on bank holiday weekend.

Iv seen 2 crashes today

Also overtaken no end of caravans on the bike earlier. As they were tootling along doing about 30 in a 50.

Glad i didnt take the car, they would have been winding me up alot haha. Little HTP needs abit of space to get past them haha

Correct..

In digit terms, i wasn't far out. :D

Is the experiment still running anyway?

I'm quite happy to sit doing the same speed as lorries on the motorway (not up their arse obviously, if you can't see their mirrors, they can't see you!) as it saves me a lot of cash in fuel, and costs me a couple of minutes at the most. This way I generally find the entire commute far less stressful.

Plus the m56 is one big rolling road block anyway since lorries are frequently over taking each other and the 90+mph brigade in the outside lane never leave space/time for you to pull in to if you're paying attention to the actual speed limits.

The biggest thing that annoys me on the motorway is people who refuse to be courteous, if I want to overtake a sub-60 lorry I'll speed up, overtake and pull back in, but I frequently find that a car can be approaching in the middle lane with the outside lane deserted, said car then flat refuses to move over to lane 3 when I indicate and basically forces me to wait for them to fly past at well over the speed limit before I can overtake. Pr***s!

Also, I've noticed over the past 12 months there seem to be more and more lorries around here that never get close to 60mph anymore... What gives? Efficiency drive by the transport companies?

Their Maximum allowed UK Speed limit & Speed Limiters.

Their maximum allowed speed on a motorway is 60. The limiters are being set lower and lower by hauliers for fuel efficiency.

I thought it was 56mph
