Just had the car tinted - Ultimate Tints Nottingham

Featured Replies

Just had the rear windows done by Richard at Ultimate Tints in Nottingham.

Had an 18% tint (only let's 18% of the light through) to keep my little one out the sun when in the car.

Richard is a top bloke, great work and a pleasure to deal with. Works from his home out of a double garage which is very professionally set up for him to carry out his trade.

Was £140 which isn't cheap I know, but by the same token I don't think it is ridiculously unreasonable.

My car is here on the website

There is a place near me in Derby which could have done it much cheaper BUT I know someone who works there and as nicer lad as he is, I wouldn't let him clean my car let alone anything else lol.

Also a company that will illegally tint your windows wouldn't fill me with confidence.

I've got to agree there. Anyone considering tints might like to bear in mind this summary...

Vehicles first used on 1 April 1985 or later:

The front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through.

Before that date:

The front windscreen and front side windows must both let at least 70% of light through.

Rear/rear side windows excluded.

Well yer I know the fronts are illagle but done on all my cars iv owned, and used the same company for 8 years now with life time guarantee what more could you ask for?? And still never had to back for faulty one.

Yes I got the life time guarantee speech with mine. How do you find they wear over time? Are tints in general easy to scratch or are they relatively hard wearing?

iv not hard them fade or anything like that, they clean well and don't really scratch tbh, iv had it where iv caught one and it ripped it, with with a sharp object

Next up, B pillar covers?

Yes almost think it needs it now. I may see if I can pick some vinyl up and have a go myself. I replaced some b pillar vinyl on my old saxo VTS many moons ago and it was really straight forward, only thing was they were purpose cut and a perfect fit!

My B pillars are wrapped, went for matte looks a bit more OEM than gloss or carbon.

Did you do it yourself mate? If so please could you point me in the direction of the stuff you used?

The guy who tinted my windows did it for me. I just bought some cheap matte black vinyl off eBay mate. It's a little bit fiddly getting it around the window seal, required 2 of us at some times.

I started doing it myself in gloss black but it looked crap against the faded window seals etc.

+1 on the above.

The sort of idiot that will tint a cars windows to that extent obviously hasn't had to clear up the carnage caused when driver of such a vehicle doesn't see cyclist / motorcyclist, and as a result causes life-altering / life ending injuries, and then has to go tell the deceaseds families....

It will no doubt be futile to regale you with stories of occasions when I had to do just that, perhaps I'll leave it with the satisfaction I took reporting drivers who drove such vehicles, after first either getting them to remove the film on the spot, or if they refused, issuing a prohibition notice preventing the use of said vehicle on a public highway.

My opinion? Tints; on the rear and side windows , yes. On the front and front side windows, no.

I seen a guy with a 70% windscreen tint on his mondeo once. Was hard to see in so Christ knows how he managed to see out!

Yes I don't know why people do it if I'm honest. My 18% on the rear is going to take some getting used to. Just this minute nipped to the post box in the car and took me about half hour to reverse back in to my spot because I was paranoid I couldn't see because it was dark! Lol

On the plus side, the nipper looks much more comfortable in the back now when it's sunny... Just need to think of a reason my daughter will benefit from me getting the alloys refurbed so the Mrs won't bend my ear lol.

I daren't put what I think to an idiot like that for fear of being banned from the forum...!

Second the idea of a matte approach for the B pillars. You're almost trying to tune out the pillar rather than glitz it up.

Fortunately, I have a black car, so less need/use for me to do it.

Most companies will do the fronts as well, nothing wrong with them doing it as long as they tell you that it is illegal and what could happen

From my experience most won't do it and clearly state it on their websites. Can you imagine their selling line "I'll tint your front windows but it will immediately invalidate your insurance and you won't be able to get insured even if you declare it because it is illegal".

Would you turn down the opportunity to make an extra £80 from a customer if he was aware of the risks and wanted it done??

Me personally, no I wouldn't. I would certainly feel responsible for doing something unsafe/illegal to someone's car. Totally appreciate that sounds like I am just taking the morale high ground but it MAY be slightly younger customers who do not fully recognise the repercussions of having this done and need a more regimented influence.

By the same token we all know this happens regardless lol.
