Vrs tsi new tyres

Featured Replies

Covered 7.5k and fronts I would say are 80% worn. I imagine I'd be lucky to get 9k before they start to border the 1.6mm legal minimum. Anyone recommend a good replacement tyre that will give a little more wear and less road noise without breaking the bank?

I won't buy a set of ditch finders as I fully appreciate they're the only thing holding my pride and joy to the road but have heard some good reviews of so called mid range tyres .

Ta folks

Conti SC2's wear like ****, ive never got more than 11k out of a set.

The SC5's are alot better, readily available and quite cheap for a premium tyre.

Michelin Pilot Sport 3's are great, Goodyear Eagle F1's are excellent too. I also quite like Pirelli P Zero Nero's as well but they mix opinion.

The thing holding a pride and joy go the road is a driver who is aware of, and drives within their own limit and that of the car. Mine are hardly touched at 4K.

Hi,

May be worth checking out another thread on the forum earlier in the year ? Somebody else had the same problem of excessive type wear and contacted the tyre manufacturer. Turned out the car was delivered new with out of line tracking !!!

just a thought.

Well also being a motorcyclist defensive driving is my technique but I like to make progress (not wheelspins etc etc) and most of my journeys I have two kids in the back and travel country national speed limit roads, that doesn't stop people from pulling out in front of you and a good tyre will make the difference between stopping/avoiding or a big thump.

I used to have BCT on my Astra Twintop

Great tread and stop well on the wet

My Astra had 225/45/17 and full set cost £240 fitted

A good point, well made.

As mentioned before, my last 1.8 L&K Octavia had Continental and were in ell down at 9000 miles until I was rear ended d.The current car is identical except with SP sport 01a's and decided to change the front at about 25000 miles.

I've just changed the fronts on mine after 11k (Conti SC3's), and swapped them for Goodyear F1 asymmetrical 2's. Only had them on a week so can't comment on wear/longevity but they certainly don't disappoint with regards to the way they handle/feel. Noise wise I'd say they are a little quieter but it's not the difference of night n day!

Being that I don't expect my Conti's to last much past it's first service and I live in one of the wettest places in Europe I'm fancying these

I've always had good experiences with Uniroyal so I'll stick with them I think. My second choice would be Continentals.

I don't rate continental from personal experience.

Personally, I'm a Michelin fan. They cost more to buy, but last much longer and cost less per mile.

I picked up my vRS TDI last week and it came fitted with Bridgestone Potenza S001s. I have no opinion on them yet.

I think that driving style and conditions must have a bigger part to play than the brand of tyre. My old Superb II had both Conti SC2s and 5s, I covered 88k over 4 years and the fronts averaged 25-30k with the rears over 50k. My Octy III is shod with Dunlop Sport Maxx which I consider to be not as good as the Contis but so far, 19k on the clock, the fronts are have over 5mm tread remaining and the rears over 7mm. Approx 70% of my mileage is on the motorway.

Few good suggestions so thanks folks. Glad I stuck with the 18" rims as prices are a lot more reasonable than the 19" fitted to my previous motor which also had a bad habit of finding potholes ...
