Window regulator question. . Sorry.

Featured Replies

Hey guys a question in the window regulators,

I was driving home last night I went to put my window down on the rear passenger side, when all of a sudden the glass fell straight back in the door!

I for home removed the door card to find a snapped cable. I tie wrapped the window shut from the elements and thieves ;)

My question is can I buy a repair kit or just a window regulator with out a motor? Mine does seem to be working, priming etc? Or is it new regulator and motor?

Oh if any body's got a spare one let me know! Mk1 octy vrs.

You only need to buy the regulator. The plastic parts tend to break up and the wire cable wraps up.

Skoda supply the regulator or GSF sell the kit for around £55.

You might have to drill some holes if the original was riveted in.

Would a regulator from a tdi modal be the same as a vrs one? I can get a genuine second hand one for £23!

Yep all the same, only headache with buying second hand is you have no idea how long the part will last before it fails and they all will at some point.

So shall i buy a new regulator or should I try the repair kit first?

easier just to get the full regulator as the cables can be a pain to change over

Don't get the repair kit , they are a pita to fit. You have to mess around for ages trying to line up cables and wind it all into motor regulator asm, trust me you would regret it. Just buy a new replacement mechanism as you then have confidence in it lasting a while and taking around 30min to fit from removal to installation of new one. Also don't fit second hand just not worth it.

The reason the plastic clips break and window drops is strain from the cables. As the cables dry up from lack of oil or dirt, rain water ingress etc the cable gets tight and stiff in the runners and snaps or strains the plastic retainers . I recently sprayed silicon spray on the window rubbers and oiled the cables and plastic pulley wheels and amazing how quite the windows have now become when going up and down.
