It's a connects 2 ISO adapter. I've sorted the aerial questions as that lead goes to a blue antennae cable on the back of the head unit for the aerial amplifier.

It's a kenwood KDC-W5544U unit shown above.

Red and yellow I have switched on bullet connectors on the kenwood loom.

The adapter red cable is labelled as ignition/switched live which I will run to the fuse box.

Orange is labelled as illumination/dash light?

Complete loom plugged into HU

Shane about the fascia! How was it packaged!? The orange one would change the display between day and night mode when you turn the lights on, and also work via the dimmer, it'd be connected to the loom that controls the dash lighting. No idea whether your headunit supports it or not though. Mine doesn't have that function so its tucked under the headunit!

I found it easier to run the switch cable through and then crimp the piggy back onto it too, there's a few tight spots under the dash...

my guess would be you hook it up to something which controls the dash lighting

This is one of the really cheap connectors so means you have to mess about like this. Connects2 make one which means its plug 'n' play but its a bit more pricey

dam, beaten to it lol

Not very well they just put the packet into a plastic bag. The piece that screws down, 1 of the tabs with the screw hole had snapped off, and the blanking plate had a big split down it.

That's exactly what I was planning to do

Yeah as long as it does the job I'm not worried tbh but Canbus is all new to me as are VW group cars so all this switched live rubbish is bloody confusing. Lol

Merekat did you have to connect up an amplified aerial to the back of your head unit? My adapter has a blue lead and my head unit has a wire for power antennae but I don't know if my car has an amplified aerial?

Also on the piggy back there are 2 slots for fuses, does it matter which one and will a 10A fuse be OK or should I go bigger?

it is mate. My octavia is my first vag so I went through the same.

I bought a Connects2 loom which was for steering wheel controls which meant I didnt have to do anything bar plug it in and switch the pos and switched live. Did cost £40 though

I don't have the VRS :( I have the paupers 1.6FSI so no steering wheel controls :(

i dont have steering wheel controls either, but by buying the loom for that the little box creates a switched live :)

They ALL have amplified aerials. The blue wire is the remote, this only becomes live when the unit is turned on so can be used to power the aerial

Ok so I need to connect this up then.

I miss steering wheel controls. I had them in my astra and was so much easier than reaching over. Guess I could retro fit them at a later date.

Then again at £175 for a used steering wheel with controls.......I'll live without them. Lol

I don't listen to the radio so my arial isn't connected....

Never thought about that to be honest, I remember the arial connector though...I dont know whether the plastic plug comes off to reveal a standard arial plug? Apologies for that!!

Here's to hoping....

I had steering wheel controls in my old van, which was nice, but I have a USB stick which is on 'random' so never actually touch the stereo... except to turn volume up when I leave home and down when I get to work!

My new van doesn't have them...it's annoying lol

Yeah usually I plug my iphone in and set that on random but occasionally like to skip tracks and crank it up a bit when a good song comes on lol. I've lived with it up until now so I don't think it'll become an issue tbh

I have some Decaf Zip files, I like a bit of Bass in the morning :D Random work well...so far...

Lol I have a bit of an eclectic taste in music so either I have to set up playlists or if I'm in the mood for Rock I end up listening to Indie or Dance so I find although random works wells I have to sometimes skip tracks.
