  • First episode features a Mk1 Escort Mexico too!   So that's F1, BTCC & now this on Sunday, think I'll stay in bed and watch and have the wife bring me food & drink all day

  • Only half way through but enjoying it so far. The car they are starting on is just like my first car - Mk1 Escort in Sebring Red - only that's where the similarities end unfortunately. Mine was the es

  • Including one for gin featuring.......Phil Glenister.

I didn't think there was enough on the actually work they did on the car, was more about that actor bloke, not as good as car SOS or wheeler dealers IMO

Not watched it yet will be watching it later but been a huge fan of wheeler dealers its got a tough crowd to please tbh

Thought it was great proper boy racers cars.

As the wife put it I was mentally making room in the garage.

Now where is that spare £25k that I need for a good one.

I should never have sold my Mk11 Flat front RS2000.

I like Mr Glennister, and any car guy is good enough for me, although the format of Wheeler Dealers is much better as shows more of the actual work.

My favourite car shows on Sky are "Counting Cars" and "Wheeler Dealers".

Been looking at getting a MK1 or 2 Escort for a while now but the prices are sky high. Back in the 80s I brought my son a concours MK2 1300 Sport for not a lot of money, and he trashed it within a month. Then he got himself a Mk2 RS2000 and done the same - once a hooligan always a hooligan!

Oh how I wish I had either of those cars now.

PS: I did read somewhere that the buyers at the end of Wheeler dealers are a set up, and not the actual eventual buyers. Not sure of the validity of that, but whether true or not, it looks certainly "staged".

Must admit I went off to look at MK1 Escorts after lol

Do still love those Mk1 Escorts (particularly the round headlamp ones) but prices have gone crazy for the sporty ones and even the bog standard ones are hardly cheap (probably because restorers try and pass them off as the sporty ones!!). And I can't see that programme dampening prices!!

I had two back in the early eighties and the 1300 Sport in white is the only car I've every owned which I wish I still had.

I really want a bog standard, non performance Mk 1 Escort just because they were so plentiful and now they have mainly been modified. Also want a Mk 1 Mini for the same reasons

It was pretty good, but I prefer WD or Car SOS as it shows more of the oily bits and is more car orientated rather than the history and that ridiculous meet he went to. Worth watching instead of TG though, which would be on if they could be bothered to do more than 5 episodes.

........ rather than the history and that ridiculous meet he went to.

Yes, but that section was pure Escort po*n

I loved it as it had no Bernie, No Mike Brewer, and no shouty Americans, and I have a Modena Green 2 dr Mk1 at the paint shop at the moment. Not a Mexico unfortunately, but it's already like Triggers broom after being in the family for years and driven by 2 generations of students. Now it's my turn, (to recapture my youth.) This will be its 3rd rebuild.

If Mike and the whole bull**** was removed from wheeler dealers I'd love it, Edd is great and could do the show on his own, like others said, nice to see lots of oil bits. That said, I enjoyed the trip down memory lane and the history lesson of the cars on this show. I'm not really comparing it to TG as they're nothing like each other tbh.

If you like Dagenham's finest, that is. As was said, give me a screwdriver, and it's a free taxi.

Thought is was a good show, liked the history (it's nice to reminisce ) but agree would have preferred to see more of the oily bits which in reality was completely lacking.

I also get the idea that they are going to auction all of the cars at the end of the series, that will make for an interesting episode to see how much they really sell these things for.

As was said, give me a screwdriver, and it's a free taxi.

Indeed, one of mine was nicked and when I collected it from where it had been left, the doors were locked. Guess the same screwdriver was used to lock it!

I am not sure the image portrayed by the Love Of Cars last night is 100% true of the Escort MK 1, the Harris's have been around for a long time but the whole after dark secret meetings and thrashing about on the street to me is not what the Escort is about.

BTW, an Escort MK 1 should have spot lights! It should also have plenty of power, this one has 260 bhp and plenty of torque from its Warrior 16 valve engine.

Being used as intended.

Don't get me wrong, the Mexico was a good restoration project but I think less of the wide boy and more of how they did the restoration would have made for better viewing.

And for good measure, here is Chris Meeke driving an Escort with BDA engine on the Colin McRae memorial rally, this is an amazing display of car control.

Here goes, time to watch...

I never even watched Life on Mars

You should and Ashes to Ashes (the 80's follow up)

Brilliant shows.

Loved, For the love of cars.

For oily bits the likes of 'An MG is Born',  'A 4X4 is Born', etc

Mark Evans  gives you all you are ever going to need.

I dont know mate, but if i was going to stage the sale at the end, id atleast stage it so it looks like iv made a lot of money haha. Most the time he lets em go for hardly any profit lol.

I always thought theyd done the deal already, then they do it again set up for the camera.

I dont know though :).

That's true, but I can't help feeling that an Audi Quattro (or any other 4 wheel drive rally car) would have dispensed with the stage with a lot less opposite lock and wheel turning!

Still, it's a testament to the Escort that it is still (relatively) competitive as a rally car.

Gotta say im not keen. I fast forwarded a few parts because they were boring the life out of me.

Also

That axle stand looks abit dodgey.

Not keen on the overall show tbh

My wife just gives me funny looks when I watch any of the Mark Evans programmes. Given that he'll dedicate an entire episode to installing a gudgeon pin that may not be terribly surprising.

'Classic Car Rescue'  on Channel 5 at 8.00 pm tonight.   The Fiat 500.

Problem is,  BERNIE FINEMAN and MARIO PACIONE.
