Black powder coated alloys

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a black Octavia III and thinking of having the alloys black powder painted. Do you think its a good idea.

Has anybody had it done on a black car? I understand it looks good on a white car but black?

What are the pros and cons of having it.

Thanks

Saurabh

Just a personal thing, the finish would have to either match the car or contrast it - if it was only a close similarity it might look odd. By this I mean if the alloys are a lot shinier than the paint finish it might look a bit strange.

True. Very good point.

Any idea how much the whole process costs?

Personally I think black on black is stunning. I'd go for a satin finish on the wheels though just to give it that slight break in textures.

As for cost I guess it depends on the condition of the alloy and the chosen finish type. As an estimate I reckon 50 ish a corner?

Alloys are absolutely new. No scratches atall. £50 per alloy isnt bad.

An alternative would be get a 2nd set from the likes of wheelbase alloys..... Lots of choice..not too much more than a powder coat job....... And a spare set for winter wheels if u like.

I personally prefer a graphite or gunmetal grey set of wheels on a black car.

What you may like is a set of these

Skoda showed these off on their FB page last July but as far as I know they have never been made available :(

Personal/subjective thing...have a look at some images and you can prob photoshop some too....My pref is a contrast so gunmetal always looks better in my opinion but it is just that.

Where in London are you as there are some decent wheel specialists just outside London eg lepsons in kent

I am in West london, wouldnt mind travelling to Kent. Do you have some names?

Lepsons are in Gillingham, kent, right by the train station. I've used them a few times and know a few that have used them as well with good results. They have a website which will help. www.lepsons.com

+1 for Lepsons. I've used them quite a few times over the years.

Some one on here recommended wicked wheels in Kent recently - they had a Fabia vrs se with some funky Blue to silver fade on the wheels.

They are available to order on the Swiss configurator so you should be able to buy them through Skoda.

+2 for Lepsons.  They did my Beetle wheels a couple of years ago in a 2 tone powdercoat finish. £65 per wheel (not sure if that included VAT or not though) including removing/refitting tyres and balancing the wheels.

Hi Saurabh, personally with an SE running 16's I wouldnt go to the trouble of painting the existing wheels black....your call of course but IMHO only works with bigger wheels and the 16's will look completely lost and probably a bit odd.

I know it would affect the ride and be a considerably bigger outlay but if I were considering doing this at all I'd possibly look to fit a set of black Turini's or maybe see if you can get a set of Golus off of eBay and get those power coated; will look infinitely better. All personal opinion of course.

Thats a good idea too. Worth exploring.
