Oil filter removal

Featured Replies

When removing the oil filter from a Fabia 1.4 (BXW engine) I inadvertently touched the back of the alternator with the wrench causing a big spark from the live. I wasn't aware of the live being exposed like that!

1. Advice to others to take care.

2. When restarting the engine the battery warning light was clicking and flashing at tickover, it went out when car was driven. Then next time it was started it seemed to need to get up to 1,000 revs before going out.

When driving normally light was not on. Any idea if I caused these problems?

Anything I should do?

Ah! Solved the problem. The fusible link blew on the 'battery top' fuses. Hope this may be useful to someone...

Photo attached of blown fusible link. N.B. you can't see it's blown as the weak strip is inside the green plastic covers. A bit silly as you need a meter to check the link (fuse) or break green cover open.

Also a bit silly is that you have to buy the whole component shown if one fuse blows. Fabia1 has individual 'dogbone' fusible links which cost pence rather than the one here which was £16!

Hope this contributes to the overall BRISKODA information pool.
