fmic intercooler advice

Featured Replies

Is there any how to topics for the toyosports intercooler upgrade thanks

I have the same kit. The ends of the pipes are not beaded, therefore under full boost my intercooler pipes pop off, my car is on a stage 2. So before fitting I would advise to get the ends beaded :-)

Do you happen to know how it holds up at stage one?

It doesn't matter, under boost, it'll pop off. There was another thread on here yesterday that had an eBay link fit a tool to bead the ends. Looked very good.

every toyo kit ive had was beaded? which one did you buy?

I bought the toyosport kit that's named under the Octavia vrs kit. Under stage 1 the pipes still popped off. That link on eBay to that beading kit, I bought that, got delivered today, looks very good. Getting pipes beaded on Tuesday :-)

Ps I'm located in Birmingham and the garage I use can fit your fmic and bead it also with the kit I bought :-)

Just an extension to this, without wanting to start a new thread.

I'm plotting my future moves, and a FMIC is next up.

Wondering what intercooler people on here think is best, on a budget of around £250, including pipework. Whether the eBay specials are any good? I assume the smaller ones are fairly useless?

Will I definitely need to do the wide mouth mod if I get a larger one? And will that need to involve cutting the bumper bar?

I've only got a stage one map at the moment, on the original turbo. So the last thing I'm wanting is to end up ruining something, or ending up with huge lag, as it could be another six months until I have everything in place for the next step, which I'm hoping will be a hybrid.

I have this one:

no issue last 2 years. (price was 145 on auction)

Only mod that was needed is to remove bulk inside crash bar. 10-15 min and everything else was easier. according vag-com, IAT are 10° above ambient. So really pleased with result.

it is all included. All U need to do is remove old IC, connect 2 pipes from kit and that is all.

Best thing is, it is plug and play, no mods (except that I already said) and that is all. Complete stealth.

Sounds perfect, cheers

I have a Forge unit which is great, but obviously a bit pricier.

If and when you fit one, please don't have it on show, nothing shouts 'cheap' more than a intercooler on show, unless it's running BIG power ofcourse.

I'm keen for a sleeper look so stealthy is best
