Replacing front O/S spring

Featured Replies

Need to replace front O/S suspension spring as half of the bottom coil on mine has snapped off and its due its MOT soon.  Would this be suitable or are the springs on the VRS specific, or are all the Octavia range springs the same?  Mine is a 2002.  It says 2006 onwards but he lists in the compatibility MK1 years but I can`t see 180bhp, only the 150bhp.

Also are there any stiffer springs for the Octavia?  I would like to keep the standard ride height as I think it's probably optimal for this car,  but just get some stiffer springs to reduce body roll a bit?

You need the correct VRS spring from main dealer or TPS. Beware most Motor Factors will supply the wrong spring. If you want to reduce the roll fit an uprated RARB.

And you'll need one for the other side too as they should be replaced in pairs.

As has already been said u will need to buy from dealer or TPS and will need to replace them as a pair.

Colour code spots for Mk 1 Vrs front coils are........1 violet and 4 yellow

Part Number.....1J0 - 411 - 105 AJ

Plus, good advice from Neily 03 / Decender, always always replace shocks / coil springs etc in pairs.

And just to add, I'm sure I read somewhere on here about OEM springs being roughly £80 each! Shocking.

This is the cheapest I've found them http://bit.ly/1ilhFO6

There is no indication as to that spring being for a VRS, so it probably isn't. Buy cheap, buy twice.

£80 isn't really alot though for something you might have to replace once ina cars life....

Oh it's the same part number as the vrs one just thought it was the same

In the item specifics part, the OE reference listed is the correct part number for the vRS springs.

If it's the correct part no it should be ok then.

£80 is a lot IMO for 1 item that is prone to breaking fairly early on. Especially when a full set of h&r springs would come in at £170 there abouts and they are probably one of the more expensive sets.

But that's just an OE reference. Not an actual part number for the part.

There are loads of aftermarket springs that have reference to being suitable for vRS. And I've yet to find one with the same length and rating.

Edit: I should add that there are a couple of aftermarket lowering springs that are suitable, but I've yet to see an OEM equivalent that is.

Yeah I wasn't saying I would trust it, just pointing out to Pauldazzle that while it doesn't reference the vRS specifically, the only OE part number it references is the vRS one.

That part number spring was also used on a few other VAG cars aswell though, from what I can garner from Google, and with the same colour dots.

If it has the correct colour markings it should be ok. Beware though as some motor factors have VRS springs listed that aren't correct, as I found out to my cost once when buying rear springs for my VRS.

Springs are a nightmare only OEM can guarantee correct spring. If it's lowering springs the get in touch with Damian at DPM he can tell you which kits are true vRS ones as some fit but are actually for a golf so give a saggy arse look.
