Flippin dealers getting it wrong!?

Featured Replies

I was on fixed service intervals due to being on a pre-paid service plan.

At the last inclusive service I asked them to change it from fixed to variable knowing I'd be paying full price for the next service.

Took the car in, as expected the note to change to variable was on the paperwork.

Collected the car later that day. The service advisor went through everything that had been done and also made a point of reading out "changed to variable servicing regime". Great. Paid up drove away and thought no more of it.

Sat in traffic on the way home tonight, bored. Started to play with Maxidot and discovered the 'Vehicle Status' option. When I saw the results I was like eh? That's fixed again then!

What happens now? I'll cover the 4,800 miles over the next 6 weeks, at which point I'll need another service.

Variable is up to 20,000 miles so I'm going to have to get it serviced far earlier than I would if the dealer had done what they said they'd done.

Do I have cause for complaint?

Yep, Lay it on thick Silver, Complain, then Name and Shame

Having said that I have an Idea who it is

Incompetance and not what you expect.

I have had many minor but "should never have hapened issues" with my new Octy from the Yorkshire steeler.

I'm sure you have the directors email addy Silver but if not PM me. He does respond out of hours delegating back to managers who eventually sort the problems.

In my game we don't have oversights as the time and expense taken to fix is way more than doing the job properly in the first place. Perhaps DMK should do the same?

Does the Invoice show that they used 'Long Life Oil' ,?

Deffo complain!

Else u be out of pocket when come next servicing

Funny

I changed my Audrey from variable to fixed at a dealership last year.

Guess wot - last service i was told it was STILL on variable according to their computers! Eeeek!

Looks like they changed it, but didnt reset it.

Go back and get them to do it properly

Hehe, I hadn't realised my dissatisfaction with DM Keith in York was so well known

I actually now use a dealer closer to work, Pulman Skoda in Durham. They are branded up VW but are an official Skoda service centre.

I've been very impressed with them, they adhere to Skoda's National Pricing Policy on a car under three years old and seem to know what they are doing. The only downside is they use an automated car wash which is able to remove paint but misses the muck!

I'm hoping this is a minor oversight, how they respond will really determine how good (or bad) they are!

Does this mean if they reset it it will revert back to variable?

My concern is I've covered a good few thousand miles since the last service, if they simply change it to variable then I assume the car will then end up covering far more miles before the next service than if it had been set to variable from the beginning?

How many?

My local Service Manager has been told if they ever wash Mine or the Wife's car I'll remove his  Private Parts

Cars never been washed

Sorted

Sorry thought it was today.

Yup, looks like they gave you a fixed service

No it doesn't make specific reference to long life oil, but due to the DPF they 'should' be using VW 507.00 whether on fixed or variable.

we know that, they should know that. Never just assume as the saying goes.

With VCDS you can adjust the distance and time since the last service. I have done thus when setting a car from variable to fixed after the garage didn't do it but not the other way round.

Audi managed to set my Dad's old A3 to 2 years or 10k miles in some kind of weird hybrid service schedule. Fortunately he did 10k in almost exactly one year. I eventually set it right with VCDS when we realised what they had done.

Serviced at 33,802 (4th March 2014), now on 38,363 (25th April 2014), so 4,561 miles since the service.

Sorry George, just dug out the paperwork, it does in fact make a specific mention of 'longlife', but not necessarily related to the oil...

"Carried out 30K lubrication service, reset service indicator to longlife, replaced air and fuel filters at customer request."

Hmm, with VCDS, can the dealer do it with their software I wonder?

If not then I shall be getting the car serviced in 4,800 miles and asking for a discount off the next bill...

VAS seems to be more limited than VCDS for some things so I'm not sure if they could. Also as above you go variable to fixed but I'm not sure about the other way and compensate for time/distance.

Brake pads only 10% worn at 33,000 miles. Got an aversion to using the 'stop' pedal.

160 miles a day, mostly at 60 - 80 mph!

I'm lucky in that my commute is all fast and (fairly) quiet roads. Very few stops.

I was also taught how to 'read the road ahead' on Briskoda which has done wonders for making my driving style much smoother. I am now able to 'lift off' earlier and engine brake now. I'm a changed man :giggle:

I've just emailed them via their website:

"Hi, I had my car serviced with you on the 4th March 2014 (Skoda Superb, reg no. XX XXX).

I asked for it to be changed from fixed to variable servicing, which was confirmed in writing on the invoice (doc no. C002219).

I just checked the vehicle status after covering almost 4,500 miles and it says it is due a service in 4,800 miles or 320 days.

The car is clearly still set to fixed. What do I do now, the car will need servicing long before it would have been if it had been correctly set to variable?

Many thanks,

Silver1011."

VW Dealers charge about £13.21 plus VAT a litre for VW 504 00 Long Life oil.

U let an auto wash lose on your car?!!!!!

No way! I ask them to write on the ticket "NO WASH"!

They have a small automated car wash which is rubbish, boo!

504? I thought long life was 507.
