Love my new FL Yeti...But..

Featured Replies

Hi

I have had my New SE FL 1.2 DSG Black Yeti since March and I have to say I love it.  Great riding height, good admunsen and just love the design.  My options were Annupurna wheels (look great and sophisticated), heated windscreen (not had a chance to use it yet), spare wheel, sat nav (good but could be better) and auto lights w/s etc.  It corners confidently and the poke for a 1.2 makes it a great drive, especially with the DSG.  MPG okish (29 mpg....accept it to be lower than it should be as it hasnt run in yet plus doing short trips 70% of the time), auto windscreen wipers okish (they work well sometimes but on low drizzle it struggles and I find myself taking control).

These are all massive positives for me...but there are a couple of things I am hoping you good people can advise, help or even tell me its  normal.

1 - When I reverse after driving forward and I apply the break I get a loud clonk from what i think is the break calipers applying the pads to the disc.  Is this normal or should I take it in to be looked at?  Once applied the break once it does not happen again when I keep on reversing and apply the breaks it doesnt happen.

2 - Unfortunately Betty has developed a creak/clonk or something metal on metal in the rear of the car (I think but could also be plastic) when I go over medium bumps which lets face it given the state of our roads you can appreciate it does happen very often!  I have tried process of elimination by taking parcel shelf out, reseating the seats, ensuring seat belts are in the holders, taking spare wheel out, putting a big cloth between rear wheel and the things surrounding it.  I just dont know what it is and it is driving me mad!  Any advice??  I have searched the forum and have tried almost every method.

3 - Loss of space due to spare wheel.  IMO I think Skoda messed up on this one and I think it was a bit of an afterthought about space given all standard models dont come with a Spare.

4 -  After it has rained and I open the window I get a load of water pour in.....

I have bought some bars and box so with the impending European trip I cant wait to put Betty through her paces :)  Still got that lovely brand new smell !!

Cheers all and hope you can help out with my queries.

1. It is probably the pads moving in the calipers. Once applied the pad can't move any further so you will not hear it again. I would suggest the dealer take a look. Although not the same vehicle when I bought a new Vitara (new to me, it had covered 12k miles) there was something amiss with the rear brakes. They showed uneven wear on the outer faces of both discs. When I dismantled them they had been assembled incorrectly, the pads were handed and had been assembled the wrong way around so back to the supplier it went who fitted all new discs and pads. So you could have fault which is worth checking out.

2. Don't know the answer.

3. While I too have ordered one this is my only concern. I am thinking of removing it (not having it installed by the dealer) and carrying it in my car. As the wife will be using the Yeti, I could run to her resue if needed.

4. Don't know the answer.

The 'clonk' in the rear is likely to be nothing more than the rear air vent flaps, nothing to worry about here.....

2. Mine does that too and it sounds like it is coming from the rear door area on the offside although the nearside also has a similar noise I think. Its hard to tell when you are driving. I don't think it is as far back as the boot.

Where are the rear air vents flaps that looby mentioned?

Dave

I've never heard or felt any clonks or noises at any time during any type of driving. I would say that is definitely not "normal".

3. And so the great spare wheel debate rages on......whether you choose to have one  or not is personal choice and how you feel about punctures/waiting around for someone to come and rescue you. Having had a tyre blow out on me and a rash of punctures (something like 6 over a 2 month period - not with the Yeti I hasten to add) for me it was on my "essentials" list and it also gave me a level floor which suits my dog. Perhaps Mr Eastwood said it best - "Are you feeling lucky?"

4. I fitted wind deflectors and think they are great - I can have the window down a couple of inches in pretty much any rain and nothing comes in the car. Others don't like them. I think I paid around £40 for all four windows so pretty affordable to try them and take them back off if you don't like them. (Or start with two, just for the front windows). Mine are smoke grey but if I was buying them now I would prefer clear; although you can see through the smoke grey they do reduce visibility somewhat at the A pillars.

Do agree that the auto-wipers can be a bit erratic and I find the auto-lights come on much too early, so I've turned them off. (However the dimming instrument panel lighting is excellent at reminding me when its time to think about putting the  headlights on).

And I would like to be able to set the sunroof to autoclose when it rains but leave the windows as I've set them - dog owners will understand why.

On 2 of my previous Classic 1.2 Yetis I had a problems with loose anti roll bars which materialized as clunks when going over uneven surfaces but obviously the noise appeared to come more from the middle of the car rather than the rear.

This appeared on both cars with less than 2k on the clocks.

Once the trouble was diagnosed it was quickly fixed by the dealer.

It also sounds by your description as if the rain problem has been carried over to the F/L as it was a known issue on the Classic.

I think the rain problem has been made worse with the FL, it happens when opening doors and windows and tailgate!

I got used to it with my previous Yeti and the drivers door but this one seems to do it all  over. :@

Hi Fred

Has the F/L got rid of the problem with water sitting on top of rear bumper ?

Should I be considering cancelling my order....

Hi Fred

It seems to have done. The rear bumper is a new part and the reverse slope that caused water to pool along the bumper under the tailgate has now gone. The black plastic finish has also gone, it's now smooth and body coloured but it does look vulnerable to scratches so I'm waiting for a bumper protector to be developed by http://www.rearguards.co.uk/. I had one on my Roomster but they don't currently do one fro the FL Yeti.

No the plus factors much out number the few minor niggles you get on all cars.

Hate to think how many cars I've had and how much money I've wasted over my lifetime but the Yeti is without doubt the best of the bunch.

Fred, I think it is already available as the RBP722, for the 4x4 outdoor with painted bumpers 10.2013 onwards.

Have you checked the user forum for the car you would order instead?

I would stay with Skoda and it would be an Octavia for certain...

Ahh!  The Octy is better in this respect, then?  (Serious question)

My son has been driving one and has not reported this problem even with all the rain we have had here.

Colin, I was happy with my previous one from Rearguards so I'm sticking with them. I suspect that the Pt. No. you quoted may be from another company or even Skoda?

Rearguard have added me to their waiting list so there must be other FL Yeti owners who have also contacted them.

Fred

I have had my Yeti over three years and can honestly say I have NEVER noticed more rain falling on me when I open ANY of the doors than what was already falling from the sky at that point. Nor have I ever noticed water cascading on me when the car is wet but it is not raining anymore...  maybe I just know that 2mm of water will dry out on my clothing after about 3 minutes? But even in saying that I have never had water drip on my head either...  so this water thing has always been a perplexing issue in my view that only some people seem to experience.

Johann, I agree, my previous Yeti never had this problem but the FL does. I find this a bit of a mystery as they have changed the roof or doors although the tailgate is slightly different.

Perhaps it's more slippery now, if so I'm not getting any MPG improvement which I would expect.

LOL ok...  maybe they put Rain-X over the entire the roof?!   :giggle:

2. Annoying sound. My yeti had an annoying (but not alarming)  plasticky clunck-clunck, seeming to originate from the rear under similar circumstances. After much exasperating research over several months the dealer discovered it was a rear door catch very slightly out of adjustment. Adjusted free of charge!

Fred, I'm confused. The number I quoted was off the Rearguards site. I thought the top of the painted bumpers on Standard and Outdoor bumpers was the same. I'm also confused as they put me on their waiting list a month or so ago and I had heard nothing.

Sounds very interesting and could be the cause, it certainly originates from that area.  Its booked in now to the dealers on the 13th May for both the break issue and clunk sound.

I agree with the number Colin.

I also contacted Rearguards, twice, but as yet had no reply. I know that people have fitted these to pre F/L and will probably order one for ours ( F/L ) if they ever have the courtesy to reply.

If any one does order , I will be interested to hear comments on delivery/fit etc.
